But this edition came in a BOX decorated with picture of Venice same as the inside covers,tissue guard. Box is very good or better with just corner wear and mild soiling,the book is FINE as issued,unread tightness.Green cloth and black lettering.Only one other BOXED issue available, no DJs on any printed copy! . The Spine ends do have wear,because they are bruised(not bumped) the cloth has been rubbed to start fraying 1 small spot, Covers are lightly soiled,and very lightly rubbed,the lettering is black and very readable,LIGHT FOXING.NO Dustjacket or the price would be 25 times this price.

PLEASE SEE PHOTOS for details. This book is the 1st State brown(english tan) and white pages. The very first pages(called a signature) is off set. The covers are lightly frayed and touched up. The inside has a name and an ink marking on 3rd leaf. But other than that if is NEAR FINE. I found an old jewelry box(?) and thought it looked nice in it. It looks old too. Grab it had this price before I find a signature for it, I have a few, then the price goes up up up.

This is the earliest G&D issue because of its DJ is designed as the 1st issue Doubleday, except it has the announcement about the Pulitzer Prize. BOOK: has light wear to the edges/corners, more spine bottom which has some fraying, less at the top spine, front cover is cracking inside( I will attempt a minor repair in turn making it very tight instead of tight). Book is very square, there is foxing(spots) on the upper page ends but not inside, other two ends just dulled. Previous owner signature on the 1st leaf ink fountain black ink. DJ: minor chipping except a spot bottom spine taking out "& D" part of the U. It is soiled and rubbing Removing part of the N on the front cover. Please see photos or request them if not seen here.

Issue points include Reddish Brick(2nd state) colored cloth, 1918 Main Title Page match 1918 Copyright page(1st Edition), multiple color paper(wartime used whatever was available,2nd state), Measuring across the sheets 1 1/8 inch(state a). Making this a Mix State 1st Edition. The limitation page from the Autograph Collection of the Works has been tipped in, this being #115 of 565 copies.Book: Maroon cloth with black lettering, small stain top spine cloth with both ends having small tears, Top 1 and fraying at the tear, Bottom 3 and fraying at the tears and pushed in cloth. faded cloth in the front gutter and previous owner's name in ink 1st leaf. Check the pictures it is a very nice book.Comes with an unfinished wood book with a magnet closure lid. Be careful rubbing your across the edges because it is unfinished with your personal touch. It protects the book from UV light damage.

Please see photos for details. Slightly darken spine, rubbing to edges Store Sticker inside front cover, Hinges cracking but very tight book. Paper seems to be of better grade than most I've seen. Light stains(fingers I guess) covers. Still a overall clean, very tight and square. It does have all the issue points, pg 419 and the matching dates and the red square Main Title Page.

DJ:has rubbing tears,chipping but still 98% complete. Book has minor soiling due to makers glue browning,book is unread tightness,pages beginning to brown. Inscription on the 1st title page 5 lines with full signature and full date.

ENGLISH TAN cloth(1st state) with black lettering, White paper(same as the one signed to his father, 1st state), with the "92" slightly raised of the 1921 copyright date(3 different types to have been found), with the error on page 419. The spines are slightly bruised with a touch of rubbing to the extremes. This is the best copy I have seen in 35 years of collecting. I know I have a signature in my files that should come with it, maybe. Hard to tell but maybe a slight lean or manufacturing mistake.

Garden City Ny: Doubleday, Page and Co, 1921 this is the 1st issue(bibliography-Russo,Sullivan) with page 419 issue point with the words "you why" instead of "why you". No dustjacket with this book(check my other listings for a later printing with its orginal dj). Covers still has its brick brown color, but they are lightly soiled, with all its black lettering intact, soiled spine with light shelf wear, covers also have light shelf wear, inside the hinge bottom is showing the webbing(could be fixed while inserting the Autograph),but no foxing or stains, a small bookstore sticker on the inside front cover bottom. webbing showing pg. 138-139. One of the better condition books I've seen. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. Illus. by Arthur William Brown. This book has its original dustjacket stated 9th edition on the spine of the dustjacket,the dj is lightly soiled and has edgewear and minor chipping,price intact.This book has vey few spots of foxing inside and has 2 title pages,minor shelfwear,dj is protected in mylar,BOOK ALSO HAS LIGHT SHELFWEAR AT THE EDGES. BONUS: included is an autographed special edition of The Gentleman from Indiana 1900,the book is falling apart but has a handsigned and numbered bookplate on the inside front cover which could be removed and used elsewhere.
