Description:
1934 1st, 1934. First edition. Hardcover. 16 pp. illustrations, reproduced in photogravure, by the author. New York: Privately published, 1934. First edition, one of 650 numbered copies signed by Nura, who has added two original drawings alongside her signature on the colophon. This copy has been additionally inscribed by Nura, with another original drawing, on a prefatory blank leaf. Nura's second book, an imaginative, dream-like and mythic evocation for both children and grown-ups of the cycle of life. An American painter and sculptress, Nura (1899-1950) began privately producing books in the 1930s for distribution among clients and friends. Much of her early work, including the illustrations in this book, is concerned with capturing the "symbols of childhood." Bound in full blue cloth-covered boards, lettered in silver on the front. A bit of very light wear to the spine ends and corners, with some faint discoloration along the leading edge of the front board; otherwise a very good copy. Signed by… Read more
