Complete with 56 full page engraved plates in volume 1 and 80 full page engraved plates in volume 2. Notable for its very large linear engravings which provide extensive coverage of the numerous sculptures and wall paintings in the interior of the building, as well as ground plans and perspective views. Gerardi's text is based on previous histories of the building, but adds descriptions of tombs and other features added during and after the basilica's restoration by the architect Alessandro Galilei in the 1730s.Later quarter morocco binding; spine in seven compartments with raised bands; morocco lettering labels, gilt; cloth sides; marbled endpapers. A fine copy.

Frontispiece and 4 pp facsimiles of the original manuscript and an early printing.One of 157 copies, signed by the printer J. C. WIlkins. This is number 138. The gilt is significantly rubbed, there are old tape marks and offset from a clipped on the endpapers, else this is a good copy. Some of these poems are racy; no wonder this was printed for private distribution. A later editions had many suppressions. In addition, Villon sometimes wrote in Parisian slang, which Payne translates into equivalent English. .

A small rubber stamped date (August 2, 1928) is impressed in the lower left corner margin of the first leaf, some glue staining at the binding edge else this is a fine copy of Wynkyn de Worde's craftsmanship. Large leaf, 11 by 16 inches, finely printed on laid paper with a watermark of a cross, a tower and a trefoil clearly seen in the margin between the two columns of print. This leaf printed in black with spaces for manuscript initials which were never put in. From 'La Mer des Hystoires' Tom. 2: 'Le Martyrologe des Sanctz', and commences with the end of the Martyrology for May 19th through June 4th, and leaving room for a large initial 'A' at the initial entry for June. Printed in Batarde, a typeface used mainly in the incunabular period and mainly only for works in the vernacular. This is among the first titles printed in French.
