The March, April and May issues contain the first appearance of the novella: The Encantadas, or Enchanted Isles" written by Herman Melville under the pseudonym Salvator R. Tarnmoor. The novella consists of ten philosophical "Sketches" about the Encantadas or Galapagos Islands related by an anonymous narrator. The sketches were later collected in The Piazza Tales in 1856.
