The caped crusader takes on child molesters. Includes afterward on the evils of "Child Sex Tourism" by David Hechler. "If Batman were real this is exactly the sort of mission he would be undertaking" (jacket blurb by Joe R. Lansdale). Fine in fine wraparound band/dust jacket.

San Francisco: Grabhorn-Hoyem, 1970. First edition thus. Each brief Mother Goose rhyme is accompanied by a small but elaborately detailed illustration by Van Aver. Colophon states 300 copies but Harlan's Grabhorn-Hoyem bibliography notes there were only 200 copies and that of those only "a few" were bound in blue decorated boards. This copy is one of those few in blue but without the printed spine labels as called for by Harlan. 4to 1/4 medium-blue cloth with light-blue paper boards printed in darker blue. Cloth at spine slightly toned otherwise near fine.

St. Louis: [Privately printed], 1991. First edition. Rare, privately printed book of poetry published for her friends after she had won the 1991 Pulitzer Prize in Poetry for NEAR CHANGES (1990) over Anthony Hecht's THE TRANSPARENT MAN. The final poem in the volume, "Long Stretch Minimalist Sonnet IXX (for Howard)," which is pasted to the blank opposing p.28, speaks directly to her win ("You were out of town/ for the smashing surprise:/ my head's heavy disguise/ in a Pulitzer crown ..."). INSCRIBED TO FELLOW POET LAUREATE ANTHONY HECHT and wife, "For Tony & Helen, this odd collection for friends--elegies, poems, occasional verses--produced by a baffled commercial printer. Love, Mona." Boston: James R. Osgood and Co., 1873. First U. S. edition and first edition in English. Presumed first issue without the translator's name on title page. Basis for the 1956 movie "Around the World in Eighty Days" starring David Niven, Noel Coward, Jon Gielgud, et al. 16mo blue cloth boards decorated in gilt and blind; all edges red; Tissue-protected frontispiece drawing of "Le Saint Michel" (replicated on the cover in gilt). Very good with wear to spine and corners but front cover still quite bright.

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1879. First illustrated edition (but second U.S. edition). 94 illustrations including frontispiece, title page illustration, and map -- 92 are full-page plate engravings by Meyer and Barbant. As in most if not all copies, the illustration listed for page 201, "A halt for the night," is not present. 8vo terra-cotta cloth boards ornately decorated in black and gilt on front and spine; pale yellow endpapers. Covers rubbed, small hole to front endpaper at hinge due to old insect damage, rear hinge paper starting, otherwise good to very good with endpapers faintly foxed, light stain to fore edge and contemporaneous gift inscription on front endpaper. A reasonably attractive copy despite the noted wear.

Near fine with dark blue cloth just a bit faded on edges in very good or better dust jacket with spine and edges just a bit faded.

Boston: Little, Brown, (1969). First edition. A sort of follow-up to his ROCKING THE BOAT. Essays on politics and literature; the Republican 1968 convention and a Manifesto for the future. Fine in lightly rubbed dust jacket with minor edgewear and two small closed tears.

New York: E. P. Dutton & Co., Inc., 1952. First edition. A young American's salacious adventures in post-war Europe; likened to the ancient legend of Paris and the Golden Apple. Damage to the top front corner, with more so the the jacket which shows some loss there. Light soiling to front panel, tanning to endpapers and page edges, minor sunning to spine, gilt lettering still bright. Corners rubbed a bit. Altogether very good to near fine in darkened dust jacket with occasional rubbing and chips.

Near fine in near fine dust jacket.

Illustrations and page-margin decorations by Sylvain Sauvage who completely finished them "just before his lamentable death" (and hence they are unsigned). Fine in gold marbled, foil-covered slipcase with minor chipping and edge wear.

New York: Harper & Bros., 1893. First American edition. Translated by Mary Herms. Von Moltke was a German Field Marshall who, in 1857, was given the position Chief of the Prussian General Staff, a position he held for the next 30 years. He made changes to the strategic and tactical methods of the Prussian army; in armament and means of communication; in staff officers' training; and to the method for the mobilization of the army. He also instituted a formal study of European politics in connection with plans for potential campaigns. In short, he rapidly put into place the features of a modern General Staff. Full cloth with gold lettering and front design. Minor wear on corners and spine ends, but still very good overall.

Collection of imagined interviews published, according to Vonnegut's introduction, as a fundraiser for New York's public radio station, WNYC, where these musings first appeared as 90-second on-air segments. Interviewees include persons known and unknown - Sir Isaac Newton, Clarence Darrow, James Earl Ray, John Brown, Eugene Debs, et al, along with locals such as Salvatore Biagini, a retired construction worker who died of a heart attack while rescuing his schnauzer from a pit bull. Slender 8vo half blue cloth over white paper boards with spine stamped in silver; 79 pages including "index of persons." Fine in fine dust jacket with front-panel illustration by Jules Feiffer of Vonnegut, cigarette in hand, reclining on a gurney.

Prints Vonnegut's heartbreaking May 29, 1945, letter to his parents informing them he is no longer missing in action and recounting his capture and escape from behind enemy lines. Number 5 of 100 numbered copies SIGNED BY VONNEGUT WITH A SELF PORTRAIT AND DATED MAY 29, 2004, fifty-nine years to the day he wrote the original letter.
