No marking or writing. Red cloth over boards with gold lettering on spine. Wear to cloth, and though binding is tight, cloth is split on rear panel at the spine, and a small split at the top of the spine on front. A few spots on the front and rear panels. 495pp., illustrations, notes, index, several pages of advertisements. Very interesting publication on women's reproductive health and childbirth at the turn of the 20th century. Part of the Edinburgh Medical Series. Clean, with no markings other than library identification marks. Jackets have a little shelfwear, and volume one has a chip at the top of front cover. Otherwise, tight and sturdy. Volume One published in 1951, and volume Two was published in 1956. Both Jackets covered with mylar.

Published in 1875, this first edition is really more to the Good Plus side with wear to the cloth covered boards at all corners, and the top and the bottom of the spine. The binding is remarkably tight, and the title on the front panel is bright and complete. All pages are present; the interior pages are a mellowed white, the paste downs and free end papers are a little darker. The front paste down has the original owner's book plate and the front free end paper has an inscription from a member of the Ward family to the family of the original owner. The first 15 pages document the life of Samuel Ward's life followed by 5 pages about the Ward family.
