London: J. & C. Walker, March 15th, 1838.. Map dimensions 93 x 65 cm, overall dimensions 101 x 66 cm. Large folding geological map with two cross-sections to the lower edge the strata of southern England from Land's End to the German Ocean and those along the spine of the country from Cumberland down to Newhaven, all vividly coloured according to the strata, dissected into 30 sections and mounted on linen, textured green paper to the folded end sections, folds into the original dark green cloth slipcase with a gold lettered label to the upper panel. Slight wear to the case, some light soiling to the map, very good overall. A less common and slightly smaller variant of James Alexander Knipe's map, first published in 1835 and thence frequently updated and reissued using fresh evidence gathered from geological fieldwork. London: J. & C. Walker, March 31st, 1837.. Map dimensions 134.5 x 98 cm, overall 143 x 100 cm. Large folding geological map with a cross-section of southern England from Land's End to the German Ocean across the lower margin, all vividly coloured according to the strata, scale: 10 miles to 1 1/8th inch, the map divided into 36 sections and mounted on linen, textured paper to the folded end sections, folds into the original purple embossed cloth slipcase with a gold lettered paper label to the upper panel. Slight discolouration to the case, otherwise this and the map in very good condition. The map was first published in 1835 and was frequently updated and reissued using fresh evidence gathered from geological fieldwork. It has been suggested that up to nine states had appeared by 1838. This is an intermediate state with Knipe's name excised from the title, but with the Walkers' address given as No. 9 Castle Street, Holborn.

[London], 1840.. Map dimensions 131.5 x 101.5 cm, overall dimensions 134 x 104 cm. Large folding map of England and Wales. Attractive original outline colour marking out boundaries and routes. The whole dissected into 48 sections and mounted on linen. Folds between original green cloth covers decorated in gilt to the upper board with the emblem of Letts & Son, plain green paper to the folded end section and to inner cover of map. Covers worn at joints, green paper on end panel slightly chipped. Some light offsetting, otherwise very good.

New York: Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, 1982.. Second impression, letter string on copyright page reading "C D E". 8vo. (viii), 245, (3) pp. Publisher's quarter purple cloth over white boards, silver lettered to the spine, dust jacket, not price clipped. Short closed tears to the top edges of the upper and lower panels of the jacket, very good in all other regard.

Backed onto linen and folding in the original publisher's boards, single sheet of distances pasted to the inside of the upper board. Old inscription to the reverse, some light rubbing and browning, very good.

Dissected and backed with linen, mild marginal creasing to two corners. Original gilt titled cloth covers, a little rubbed. Originally printed for "Hobson's Fox-Hunting Atlas". Kingsley 108A (ii).

London: Neville Spearman, (1959).. First edition, 8vo, xvii, (i), 220 pp. Elizabeth David's copy, with her booklabel to the paste down and a brief pencil note to the rear fly leaf concerning where the book was placed on her shelves. Cloth, d.w. with some chips and soiling.

Wakefield: Richard Nicholls, January 1st, 1830.. Map dimensions 190 x 154 cm. A very large brightly hand coloured map of England, Wales and southern Scotland with the continuation to the north of Scotland in a large inset to the upper right corner, dissected into 54 sections and mounted on linen, all edges trimmed in brown silk, marbled paper panels to the folded end sections, housed within a contemporary book style two part box of tan full calf, spine with raised bands gilt lettered direct to three panels. Some mostly light wear to the case with a few small losses, an attractive example of a striking map. Though it precedes it by a year, the map was produced to accompany Joseph Priestley's work "Historical Account of the Navigable Rivers, Canals and Railways Throughout Great Britain." Very much a Yorkshire map, it was produced in concert by Walker, a local surveyor, Priestley and the publisher Nicholls, who jointly dedicated the map to the King at the foot. Oxford: Printed at the Theater, 1687.. Fifth impression, 12mo, (xii), 309, (1) pp, lacking a final blank. Vignette of the Sheldonian Theatre to title page, contemporary inscription to the half title with another of a similar vintage mostly obscured to the fly leaf verso. Contemporary sheep with some wear, recently rebacked. Master of University College, Walker had been forced to travel during the interregnum and continued his travels during the restoration as well as publishing a number of books. Declaring himself a Catholic during James II's reign, he lost his status once more after the Glorious Revolution. ODNB describes him as "...one of the most productive scholars of Restoration Oxford", adding "his ghost is reputed to haunt staircase 8 of University College". Wing W403. First published 1672.

First edition. 8vo. xxii, 581, (1) pp. Publisher's dark blue cloth, gilt lettered to the spine and upper board, publisher's notice tipped in at the title page and two errata slips at p. 1. Frontispiece portrait of the author's father, a folding table, folding colour map and 98 illustrations in the text. Wear to the extremities with slight loss at the corners, else very good.

(Barcelona): Ediciones Poligrafa, (2007).. First edition, 4to. Coloured photographic illustrations, signed by Wall on the half title, A4 advertisement for the book signing loosely inserted. Original cloth, pictorial wraparound band, a fine copy.

London: Chapman and Hall, 1914.. 8vo, xvi, 408 pp. 110 illustrations, light foxing at the beginning and end. Original maroon cloth, spine slightly sunned. First published the same year.

First edition. 8vo. xvi, 494, (2) pp. Publisher's green cloth, gilt lettered and ruled to spine, neatly rebacked preserving most of the original spine, book label of the entomologist Norman Hickin to the front free endpaper, another prior's owner's ink stamp to the head of the title page, a further old ink stamp of "Hotel Continental Mustapha-Alger" to the header of the first page of the preface. Lacking the frontispiece portrait of Wallace but with the folding colour map (this also featuring the hotel stamp on the verso) and 37 text figures. Some light wear to the cloth, else very good. Wallace's letter to Darwin from the far east in 1858 led to their collaboration and prompted Darwin to publish "The Origin of Species" a year later. This work updates his theories for a society where evolution "is now universally accepted as the order of nature in the organic world" (Preface).
