Image clean and sharp. bccjc 352053 April 1, 1896 souvenir tintype from a visit to the Sutro Baths in San Francisco, the world's largest indoor swimming pool which had just opened three weeks earlier. The well-dressed young man poses in photographer William C. Billington's studio in front of a backdrop of the Cliff House, a restaurant built in the château style located on the same grounds as the Sutro Baths. The baths and the restaurant were operated by Adolph Sutro, then mayor of San Francisco.

[London:] Novello, Ewer & Co., Printers, [1882]. Near fine with trifle wear. Two items. Dinner menu (card, 6¼ x 4¼ inches) and dance card (bifolium, 3¾ x 2½ inches) for a prize ceremony of London Irish Rifles at St. James Hall in London, December 20, 1882. The unit was founded in 1859 as reserve infantry regiment in the British Army. By the time of this ceremony and dinner/dance, the London Irish Rifles had been re-formed as the 16th Middlesex (London Irish) Rifle Volunteer Corps. The unit's honorary colonel, Prince Arthur (Duke of Connaught), presented the prizes. An elaborate dinner followed, as seen in the French-language menu. The dance program notes 17 dances and lists the evening's Stewards and M.C.s; music provided by the York House Quadrille Band. Ref. Small advertising handbill with imprint for a Lancaster, Pennsylvania seedsman laid in. Only brief handling and some offsetting on upper cover; overall, very good. Agricultural trade catalog issued by W.E. Whann of Atglen, Pennsylvania, manufacturer of super-phosphate fertilzer for for corn, oats, wheat, and tobacco. The catalog is mainly comprised of customer testimonials and advertisements for the firm's super and ammoniated phosphates, "Chester Valley" brand tobacco fertilizer, and pure ground bone. General directions for using each product concludes the pamphlet. A printed notice on the upper wrapper informs the reader that these fertilizers were for sale by George N. LeFevre. A small advertising handbill (with separate imprint) for J.D.C. Pownall, a Lancaster, Pennsylvania seedsman, is laid in-cross marketing in action.

A scarce photograph showing Company A of the 100th Infantry of the Albany Zouave Cadets at military attention and in full dress in front of their pitched tents. The image is captioned further in small type along the bottom: "In Camp, Cooper House Grounds, Cooperstown, N.Y., Aug. 5th, 1873." According to the New York State Library: "The Albany Zouave Cadets, organized in 1860, became Company A of the 10th New York Militia Regiment of Infantry. During the Civil War, it was incorporated into the 177th New York Volunteers for a service of nine months. It was engaged principally in the Siege of Port Hudson, Louisiana. The Saratoga Seltzer Spring Water Co. was founded ca. 1868 by the children of Henry W. and Caroline Livingston and their son-in-law, Johnston Livingston. This photograph shows the front of a large two-story brick spring-house and its entrance porch. The name of the business is on the brick below the cornice. Men and women stand out front or are seated in horse-drawn buggies. Other buildings are seen on the left, up a hill. W.H. Sipperly established his photographic studio in Schuylersville, New York, in the 1850s, and later expanded to Saratoga and Mechanicsville. He later moved to Vermont.

Swinehart was the chief parole office of the Glen Mills Schools in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, established in 1826 and originally named the House of Refuge of Pennsylvania. The Glen Mills Schools for Boys was a reformatory for juvenile delinquents. Its mission was to protect the boys from ending up in jail, to prevent them from committing crimes against society, and to prevent them from sabotaging their futures through irresponsible behavior or illegal activity. Ephemera for a special Bryn Mawr Alumnae benefit performance of Stuart Walker's stage production of The Book of Job, the first English-language dramatization of the biblical text. The three-part "visualized poem" was staged at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia. This group consists of a four-page brochure with a biography about Walker, play summary, and press reviews; a subscription blank and envelope; a circular letter from Gertrude Ely, Chairman of the Bryn Mawr Alumnae Association of Eastern Pennsylvania; and a handbill describing the alumnae scholarship program at Bryn Mawr College. Stuart Walker founded the Portmanteau repertory theater company in 1914. In 1930, he began a career in Hollywood, achieving success as a screenwriter, director and producer. Walker produced stage adaptations for Booth Tarkington, Lord Dunsany, P.G. Wodehouse, Sinclair Lewis, and others.
