The book is a "series of short impressionistic prose vignettes" about growing up in Southern California illustrated with four wood engravings (Pantages Theatre, Palomar Observatory, and 2 vintage automobiles from the 1950s) as well as a title-page vignette of a cracked sidewalk which is repeated in blind on the front cover. INSCRIBED to producer and screenwriter Ralph Block, "Christmas greetings to Ralph Block from Rob Wagner/ 1922." A tall, narrow book (5.5 x 10") with paper-covered boards and no dust jacket, as issued. Fragile paper covering worn at spine, front hinge cracked and threatening to detach but still holding but otherwise quite good.

Near fine with short wrinkle to front board, light damp staining to bottom edge, and small penciled picture of a cat on rear pastedown under the jacket flap; in about very good dust jacket with light nicking and rubbing, small chip from top edge front panel, rear panel a bit darkend and soiled, and spine a little toned.

The U.S. monthly version of the London weekly "Journal of British and Foreign Medical, Surgical, and Chemical Science, Criticism, Literature, and News." Two volumes-in-one with issues for January through June in "Volume I," and for July through December in "Volume II" (at the time, a new series of volumes "I" and "II" was issued each year.) Each volume followed by its own index. Relatively recently bound in 4to brown simulated leather. Over 3 inches thick and running over 1200 pages in total. Line drawings in the text and, preceding the last 6 monthly issues, full plate portraits of each physicians profiled at the beginning of that month's issue. This particular issue includes three poems attributed to Robinson Jeffers: "The Lake" (p. 8) by "R. J." [Alberts A-9]; "Nemesis" (p. 1) by "Rob York"; and "In the Garden" (p. 8) by "Edwin Rush." The latter two being attributed to Jeffers by the Robinson Jeffers Association and Jeffers scholar Robert Brophy. [Note: "Nemesis" herein is not the same as the poem appearing under that title in FLAGONS AND APPLES]. Includes the first appearances of Jeffers' poem "Faunus" [Alberts A-8] on p. 1 under his own name and of "El Dorado" on p. 5 under his "Edwin Rush" pseudonym. Jeffers is also mentioned as one of the "new men" in athletics for long-distance running (p.15). Large 8vo (7 x 9.75") light gray-brown stapled paperwraps with art-nouveau cover design; 20 pages. Staples badly rusted causing staining to surrounding areas and the innermost leaf to have detached (it's laid in); faint offset from printer's ink to first and last pages and, more noticeably, the rear cover. Which is too bad because other than the sort of vertical crease you might see from folding to be tucked in one's pocket and the faintest of dampstaining to lower corners, overall it is relatively bright and clean. Large 8vo (or small 4to) tan cloth-backed blue paper-covered boards with off-white spine label printed in blue; 811 pages plus folding chart and folding map. Boards visible along lower edge and at upper tips but otherwise a near fine, bright, tight copy lacking the scarce printed dust jacket.

Stated "Fourth Edition" of Walsh's text "To Which Is Annexed" the text based on Turner's. 16mo period brown polished leather boards; gilt-ruled spine with gilt-stamped black leather label reading, "Walsh's/ Arithmetic"; all page edges speckled; 264 pages plus 67 pages (including a separate title page dated 1823) plus 3 pages ads. Period bookseller ticket of "J. Hutchens, No. 1, Market-Square, Providence, R.I." to upper corner front pastedown. Good to very good with foxing to first and last several leaves and covers marked and moderately worn.
