Tall hardcover, tannish gray paper covered boards with gray cloth to spine. This is the original edition with a smaller ship on the front board, not a newer printing. No publication date listed though the index of other ships in the back of the book do not show any years higher than 1944 (est. 1945). Exterior is tanned and spotted with soiling present. Interior front hinge is good and binding is good for text pages but the hinge at the rear board is rather ugly and wide-open. No signatures or bookplates present, no library markings. Pages are tone due to age and foxing/spotting is present. Rear of book contains three illustration inserts, one of them being a very large foldout drawing. One of the smaller illustrations is tattered along the bottom edge.

Englewood, OH: Published by the Author / The William Byrd Press, 1941. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good-. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, blue cloth boards with gilt on front and spine. Exterior shows a dampstain on the front outside fore edge. This stain is also present on the front pastedown but does not affect text pages. Internal binding is good, no hinge issues, text pages are tight. Inscribed and signed by the author on the front end page. No other handwriting noted in book, no bookplates or library markings. Pages are toned due to age and some minor spotting and foxing is present.

Essen, Germany: G. D. Bädeker, 1838. Hardcover. Good-. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, original full leather binding. Leather is worn, particularly to the edges and corners. Spine has a large piece missing at the top and the exterior hinges are cracked. There is also a small paper label on the spine which appears to be a price sticker. The interior is in much better shape and text pages are tight. There is some pulling showing at the boards but the remaining pages are in very good condition. No signatures or bookplates found, no handwriting, no library markings. Paper is toned due to age and foxing is present throughout with some pages showing quite a bit. This is the "Zweiter Band" (second volume). Book is in German.

Washington DC: Armed Forces Special Weapons Project, 1956. Soft cover. Good. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. Softcover. Unclassified document mainly for organization, format for draft manuscripts, illustrations and style used for writing official documents for operations and experiments. Pages appear to be mimeographs of typed documents. This book does not go into any specifics of military operations but instead is a guide for preparing a military report. Original owner's name penciled on front cover along with a small pen mark. See photos.

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1949. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover with dust jacket. The price is clipped on the front flap. DJ shows quite a bit of sunning along the top edge and spine areas, edges show bumping/chips/small tears. Gray cloth boards underneath also has sunning along the top edge and spine areas, the remaining boards are clean. Internal binding is good, no hinge issues. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no handwriting, nothing torn or loose, no remainder marks. Pages are little toned along the edges but are clean.

Indianapolis, IN: The Bowen-Merrill Company, 1903. Hardcover. Very Good. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. Howard Chandler Christy. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, bluish gray cloth boards ornately decorated on front and spine. The front board is attractive with only very handling wear but the rear board shows quite a few smudge marks and scuffs. Spine is also mildly tanned. Edges and corners show bumps/light wear. The internal binding is good at the boards but there is some pulling at spots of the text pages where the book was laid flat. Decorative end pages and front and rear, the front pastedown has two small spots of glue, presumably from the bookbinding process, along the bottom edge. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no handwriting found. The book condition is a strong VG, borderline VG+.

Boston, MA: James R. Osgood and Company, 1875. Hardcover. VG-. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, beveled green cloth boards with gilt on front and spine. Exterior shows only minor scuffing along with edge and corner bumps/wear. This book has an attractive exterior which would normally grade as VG+ to near fine but it does have some interior issues. Forest green end pages in front and rear are free of any handwriting or bookplates, no library markings. There is a brief gift inscription on the fourth front end page, and this is the only handwriting found. Pages are toned due to age and light foxing is present throughout. Pages are of heavy bond paper, thick like an index card. The reason for the low condition grade is because the interior binding is brittle and a bit noisy when opened. Boston, MA: William D. Ticknor & Co., 1848. 3rd Edition . Hardcover. Poor. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, original stamped brown cloth boards with gilt text on spine. Front board is detached and spine has chipping and cracks present. Despite the rough exterior the internal binding of the text pages is good though rear hinge is cracked at both the board in the beginning of the rear end pages. Paper is toned due to age and spotting and foxing is present. One of the rear end pages has the lower outside corner missing, this tear measures several inches. The rear pastedown has a number 81.154 written in pencil in several of the pages as pencil lines lightly written outside of the text area where somebody marked some key paragraphs. The book appears otherwise complete, good copy for reading or reference. Title page states third edition.

The book would normally grade as VG but it is missing one of the front free end pages. Exterior shows spotting and soiling along with edging corner bumps/wear. As a few small chips in the cloth along the spine edges. The internal binding is good, with the exception of the missing second front end page. The first front end page has some very lightly penciled names and the last page showing publisher's ads has a name penned along the top. There are no blank end pages in the rear of the book but there is no indication that any were removed. Pages are toned due to age and foxing is present throughout. Philadelphia, PA: David McKay, 1891. Revised edition . Hardcover. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, brownish green cloth boards decorated in black and gilt on front and spine. Exterior shows minor spotting and soiling but edge and corner bumps are present with the bottom edges being the worst. The internal binding is good in text pages are secure. No hinge issues, no bookplates, no library markings. There is a gift inscription from the original owner on the front and page and is faint residue in the corner were an old bookstore price was once penciled. Going through the pages we did see that several of them did have pencil marks, these were basically limited to small X marks and a few pencil ticks. These are only found on three pages though there might be one or two that we missed. The only other issue is at the bottom of the exterior page edge textblock where there is a thin crease/dent running across the pages in both boards.

Hardcover, red cloth boards show spotting in the spine is mildly sunned, edges and corners lightly bumped. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, nothing torn or loose. The only evidence of handwriting found in the book is at the top of the front end page where you can just tell where an old bookstore price was once penciled and then later erased. Text pages are clean but the end pages show a few light smudge marks. The book grades as a high VG, borderline VG+.

If brown cloth boards with gilt lettering on front and spine. Stated second impression, May 1903, on the copyright page. Signed and dated by the author on the first free end page. Front pastedown shows faint writing where something was once penciled and then erased. Top edge gilt. Rear pastedown has bookstore label. Pages are clean and binding is good, no issues noted.

Baltimore, MD: The Johns Hopkins Press, 1968. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Fine/VG+. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover with dust jacket. Original price of $7.00 is still present on the front flap. Copies were purchased for bookstore but most never made to the retail shelf. Jacket is slightly toned along edges and spine and has a few minor bumps. Light gray cloth boards underneath are clean and the book itself is as-new. Binding is tight as book has never been read, no signatures or bookplates, no remainder marks.

New York: Henry Holt and Company, 1915. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good+. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, inscribed and signed on Christmas day, 1915 to Sylvia Pankhurst, though the handwriting looks more like Pankhursh: "Sylvia Pankhurst - a courageous comrade. Sincerely yours, Lillian D. Wald. New York December 25/15". The book exterior shows some spotting and soiling, along with sunning to the spine. The front board has a discolored spot in the upper right corner and edges and corners show bumping. The book would normally grade as VG-to VG but the title page starting to split at the hinge area on the backside and there is a very small opening starting at the rear board hinge, near the top. The remaining text pages are secure, and many are tight. The tissue guard for the frontispiece is only attached by about 20% at the top. Exterior is quite soiled and spine is sunned. No signatures or bookplates present, no library markings. Front hinge is cracked at the board, rear hinge is good. Rear pastedown shows a tear in the paper in the upper right corner - which is from when the book was bound and not misuse. Pages are mildly toned due to age and some foxing and smudge marks are present. Tissue guard has several smudge marks and a small tear of less than 1/2 inch.

Brown end pages and front and rear. Front end page shows the previous owner's name and date in the upper corner. No hinge cracks are present. Pages are toned due to age and foxing is present throughout. The exterior boards have corner bumps along with soiling and spotting/splash marks. Corner bumps were also present on interior pages. Boards have a very slight bow to them as seen in the 5th image.

Hardcover, green cloth boards stamped on front and rear, gilt on spine. Exterior shows minor corner and edge bumping/wear with cloth is spotted with what appears to be ink splashes on back and spine edge. Yellow end pages at front and rear. Front end page shows owner signature and 1881 date (John M. Barnett of Pennsylvania). No hinge cracks present, no torn or loose pages, binding good and strong. First edition thus.

The previous owner signature and date on front end page and there is eight small hole (less than 1/4 inch across) above the name on the end page where it appears that something was erased. Small gift inscription on page following as well.. No other handwriting or bookplates noted. No torn or loose pages, no hinge cracks. Front board interior has small dampstain in bottom left corner which goes in as far as the half-title page and tissue guard has small stain along top edge. Cloth boards show bumps in spots. Exterior is in very poor shape with the front board fully detached. Leather is worn and soiled and there are multiple old tape repairs across the spine. Interior binding is good for the text portion of the pages but the front free end pages are detached. Paper shows toning due to age and minor scattered foxing and spotting is present though end pages and pastedowns are quite darkened. Signed on the title page by Henry Hice of Beaver County, PA. The lower right corner of the title page also contains Mr. Hice's embossed attorney seal.
