Edges toned and spotted. Toning to cloth, mostly spine. Minor wear and bumping to extremities. Very good. Cecil William Mercer, initially trained as a barrister, was famous for two book series: the semi autobiographical 'Berry' books and the hair-raising 'Chandos' thrillers. Fire Below is fourth in the Chandos series.

Cecil William Mercer was an English writer and novelist whose work was often becoming best sellers during the Interwar Period.

Slight wear to edges of hardcover, jacket a little frawrappeyed around edges. Fine. Jack B. Yeats was a painter, playwright and silver Olympic medalist. Contains Yeats' plays from 1901-1964.

Lovely copy, internally bright and clean, minor toning to head edge of textblock and endpapers, slight fading to spine otherwise binding in good condition. Fine. Yeats was a poet whose autobiography depicts his childhood, of being an Irishman growing up in England and the racially motivated bullying and hostility he faced, in a poetic style. Yeats was the first Irishman to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1923, and served as an Irish Senator for two years.

Previous ownership inscription in black ink to title page, dated to the 1830s. Light rubbing to boards, some discolouration and scuffing to calf. Wear to spine, joints, and board extremities. Very good. A product of the partnership between the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge and William Youatt, accomplished veterinarian and animal researcher whose influence reached Darwin. The SDUK (1826-1848) was a project implemented by Whig politician Henry Brougham to publish cheap educational texts for the working/middle class reader. This book comes from their Farmers Series, and covers the horse's general history, anatomy, behavioural instincts, and proper management.
