London: John Van Voorst, 1871-74.. Fourth edition. Four volumes. 8vo. Publisher's dark blue cloth, gilt lettered to spines, slightly later book label repeated to each of the front pastedowns. Hundreds of fine engraved illustrations in the text. Some bumping and rubbing to the extremities, a decent set overall. One of the standard 19th century ornithological works, here greatly enlarged from the previous edition.

Brighton: Arthur Wallis, [c.1830].. Overall 33.4 x 30.3 cm, incorporating the plan of Brighton at 25.6 x 30.3 cm and the prospect of the town from the sea at 7.7 cm x 30.3 cm. Original lithograph after the original copper engraved plan, later hand colouring to both the map and the view, the upper edge of the plan with a decorative cartouche featuring a lettered key to principal places located beneath. Sometime laid down on card, a few small tears without loss, some small surface losses to the upper right corner. Ford, 3, i, describing the view. First published in 1779 from an original survey by these early pioneers in the mapping of Sussex, presumably as an adjunct to their two inch to the mile county map. This printing of the map no doubt appeared as a result of the increased number of visitors to the newly fashionable resort. Neither edition of this very early broadsheet plan of Brighton is common.

(viii), 69, (3) pp. Publisher's green cloth, gilt lettered to the spine, early ownership inscription to the head of the first free endpaper, another dated 1952 underneath this plus some pencilled notes to the opposing pastedown. Sunning to the spine, else very good. Containing two plays - "A Full Moon in March" and "The King of the Great Clock Tower", plus seven poetical works under the collective title "Parnell's Funeral and Other Poems". Wade, 182.

(xvi), 314, (2) pp. Publisher's teal cloth, elaborate designs by Althea Gyles in gilt to the spine and blind to the boards, dust jacket. Portrait frontispiece. Spine of the rare jacket browned with losses to the ends and, less so, corners, barring some minimal rubs to the edges the book is in excellent condition.
