The set is profusely illustrated with 500 wood engravings. Enlarged second edition with 37 new species, 27 new engravings, and 34 new vignettes added. There is a General Index and an Index to Vignettes at the beginning of volume I. Publisher's original cloth binding.Condition:The volumes have cloth tears along the edges of the spine (with the exception of right edge of the volume II spine). There are some tiny stains on the covers. Pull tears to the cloth at the top of the spines; small tears at the bottom of the spines. There are cracks at the hinges between the end papers and pastedowns, thought the covers remain firmly attached (with the exception of the volume I front cover which is a bit shaky).
