Full suede sheep; leather spine labels: "Association" and "Board of Managers;" marbled endpapers; all edges marbled. Approx. [120]pp and [395]pp of manuscript, respectively. With laid and tipped in related letters, newspaper clippings, ephemera, etc. Some wear to spine and boards; very good. Two large ledger books containing handwritten minutes and reports from the Young Men's Christian Association or YMCA of Auburn, New York, 1885-1910. These two separate manuscript volumes preserve the records of the general membership "Association" and its "Board of Managers," each volume appropriately titled. The Auburn YMCA was founded in 1859 and is one of the oldest YMCAs in the country. [Charlestown and Cambridge[port?], Massachusetts, ca. 1866-1886]. Eight wrappered notebooks, the smallest measuring 5 x 3 inches, the largest 6¾ x 4 inches. The notebooks are largely unwritten in; collectively, there are approximately 150 pages in manuscript. In very good to near fine condition. Eight handwritten notebooks kept by Dr. Edward Young White recording family memoirs, religious and scriptural notes, and genealogical research. The White Family were Scottish immigrants who settled in Worcester and Middlesex Counties, Massachusetts in the 1730s. Dr. White's genealogical notes record data going back to the 17th century. Births, baptisms, marriages, deaths, biographical information, and a family tree linking his father and mother, Samuel White and Susannah née Young White, are recorded. Salem, (Massa.) Printed by Nathaniel Coverly, Jun. 1802. 47, [1]pp. Hand-stitched into contemporary tan drab waste-sheet wraps. Spine reinforced with expert tissue mend. Very Good. An attractive copy of this scarce 1802 New England edition of Young's Poem as printed by the ever-enterprising firm of Nathaniel Coverly. Three poetical "endorsements" prefaced Young's poetic text. Two are written by Oxford dons and one is written by Joseph Bank, the English naturalist and botanist. AAS records a defective copy with Coverly's price of 12½ cents beneath the imprint.
