Description:
U.S.A.: George H. Doran Co., 1925. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Near Fine/No Jacket. From the collection of brothers Adrian Homer Goldstone and M.B. Goldstone--Steinbeck's bibliographers--and prolific collectors of early Western and early Detective fiction. A fine copy of the first printing without the elusive dustjacket. This copy contains a letter from the author addressed to his publisher laid into the book that states: " Dear Sirs: Proofs herewith returned: May I see them when they have been revised? Rededication to read: Dedicated to the Native Sons and Daughters of California"--"Yours Truly, Gordon Young". From a historical and bibliographical perspective--an important letter from the author concerning this early novel of the West and the Western genre. Setting is the Gold Rush days of California with romance and gunfights.
