Description:
London: Dent, 1954. Autograph musical manuscript (with editorial annotations) by Dylan Thomas's lifelong friend Daniel Jones which were reproduced in exact facsimile in the first edition of Under Milk Wood. Eight pages of manuscript score in the hand of Daniel Jones contained within a large manila envelope with the typed reference number from the Dent publishing archive: 'UNDER MILK WOOD - Dylan Thomas 74153-74166'. Description:
C F Kant, 1970. 220 x 143 mm. Very Good. Martin Doernberg, Adagio fur Streichorchester, C F Kahnt, 1970; small folio in card wrapper. This score is from a large collection of scores that belonged to the conductor Sir Colin Davis, many annotated and used in performance, almost all from the post-war period and including at least two examples of scores from which Davis conducted the work's premier: Thea Musgrave's Clarinet Concerto (Davis was himself originally a clarinettist by training) and Malcolm Williamson's The Stone Wall which Davis premiered at the Last Night of the Proms in September 1971. Most of the scores are full size performance versions, several very large indeed in order to accommodate the scoring of a post-Schoenberg orchestra. Davis achieved global recognition for his conducting with a particular enthusiasm for the music of Mozart, Berlioz, Elgar, Sibelius, Stravinsky and Tippett. Very Good 1970

London: Charles Letts, 1921. Hardcover. Very Good. pp 64; page/week. A young London mother's diary for 1921. Adele Margate's ownership signature appears on the first endpaper above the adverts: she has made around 150 short diary entries in the printed grid which allows one page per week. She reveals herself as a married woman living in the vicinity of Richmond in south west London. At least two of her children have died and are remembered on their birthdays: 'Took up some flowers to dear little Baby. She has been dead four years tomorrow.' This causes Adele still further anxiety when she records that 'Peter [is] better but baby much worse. The doctor says he has bronchial pneumonia. Temp v high.' There are trips into London apparently to meet her husband: 'Went up to Town met Lew and we had dinner at Hatchets [Piccadilly] with Mrs Cooper and Margery and went on to see 'Sunday' by Barclays Bank Amateurs.' There are occasional political comments as on May 17th: 'The coal strike settlement as far off…
