Description:
Hollywood, California: American Russian Institute, 1947. Folded, as for mailing, small hole and rust stain at the fold on front wrapper; delicate but sound.. 8vo, eight unnumbered mimeograph pages in printed wrappers. Scarce little cultural propaganda publication issued by the American Russian Institute of Southern California, whose board of directors included the soon-to-be blacklisted screenwriter Alvah Bessie and Russian-born director Lewis Milestone. Although Milestone, like Bessie, refused to name names of Hollywood communists when summoned in the infamous HUAC hearings, he was able to avoid the blacklist. This publication contains reports on violinist Yehudi Menuhin's visit to Moscow, and other music reviews; reports on science and medicine in the USSR, and a piece on Soviet cinema, along with brief announcements and notes. The wrappers include photographs on inside and outside. Not recorded in OCLC.

London: Edward Arnold & Co., 1936. First edition. Bookplates; just about fine in light soiled dust jacket, edges reinforced on the underside with paper-tape, a handful of small tears.. 8vo, 351pp; blue cloth stamped in gilt on spine. From the first issue, with "A Flood in the Office" on pages 278-281, which was excised from later copies. A notable association copy, linking icons of LGBTQ literature: signed by Forster on the title page. Glued to the front flyleaf are the small bookplates of Glenway Wescott and Monroe Wheeler, with another small paper with "Mr. Glenway Wescott" affixed above these, apparently preserved from the package in which Forster sent the book; further inserts tipped in at various places, and with Wescott's marginal notes in ink on several pages.
