Hampstead, 1898. Hampstead: 1898. Three pages. On her personal stationary. Octavo. (Measures 6 x 3 3/4 inches). To Mrs. Shaw thanking her for an invitation. 21st Feb. 1898 39, Frognal Hampstead, N.W. Dear Mrs. Shaw, I'm so sorry to hear you have had such a bad cold. I have been so fortunate and gone through the winter without one bad one- a wonderful thing for me. I think I would rather come one day and see you-When I should see more of you instead of Wednesday, 20 of March -For I fear I know nothing about Africa- I will therefore give the card to someone else if I find anyone who is interested in the subject- I get so very little time I have rather to dole it out- However I shall hope to come one day and see you when I hope you will have quite recovered. Yours Very Sincerely Kate Greenaway Thank you very much for sending me the card. I'm so tired- I've written such a stupid letter. HBS 67481. $350.

Description:
Baden, Germany, 1868. Autograph Letter Signed. Baden, Germany: 1868. Single leaf (5 1/4 x 8 1/4 inches) with manuscript on both recto and verso. Written in French. Baden, July 26, [18]68. Leaf a bit toned. With light crease marks. Still a very good example with an interesting subject matter and recipient. The present letter pleads with the recipient whom it is believed to be Pauline Viardot, to update him with news on the well being of his daughter who was to give birth on or around July 9th of 1868. He had received word from his daughter Paulinette that she was due to give birth but had not heard anything since. The present letter being dated July 26, 1868. The tone of the letter and the fact that Viardot was a trusted caretaker of his daughter Paulinette leads one to believe this was written to Viardot. Turgenev states in the letter "I intend to come to Paris around the 10th of next month- and you will be, as always, the first person I call on. I ask you, dear Madam, to accept this assurance of… Read More
