1926-1942. Hardcover. Large cloth covered boards, embossed. Very good. 499 pages. 40 x 17 cm. A rather extensive accounting of a family in Connecticut during the early to mid 20th century. Alongside daily expenditures is the detailed description of land leases, car and truck purchases, family deaths, and divorce. Other odd events recorded - major news accounts including convicted prisoners sentences and their crimes, a two page list of movie actors (male & female) from 1932, Movie titles of 1932-33, famous and non-famous deaths and where they were buried - all in all a curious look into a "normal" household in semi-rural Connecticut. Book is fully used, about 3/4 of the pages used. Handwritten in ink, pencil, and colored pen. Boards heavily soiled.

Madrid: Alianza Editorial, 1970 . Paperback. Illustrated wraps. Good. 207 pages. Eva Figes (1932-2012) was a Jewish refugee from Hitler's Germany, an author, a feminist, and a mother. In this book about feminism, Figes uses a diametrically opposite approach - "if the woman has been contemplated for centuries in the mirror made for her by the man, it is of cardinal importance to examine the mentality of the architect who, through the imposition of social expectations and moral norms, has managed to internalize her own scale of values in the other sex." Text in Spanish. Interior clean, covers lightly soiled.

Portland, ME: A. S. Hinds, 1907. Staplebound. Illustrated wraps. Very good. Unpaginated. [16 pp.] 15 x 8.5 cm. Hinds' Honey and Almond Cream was formulated in the late 1870's by Aurelius Stone Hinds in Portland Maine while working in a drugstore - it was a huge success and was bought out in 1907 by Lehn & Fink, makers of Lysol. Pamphlet concentrates on the new outdoor activities women were participating in. Illustrated throughout. Clean, crisp copy. Covers lightly soiled.

Handwritten letters on stationary (The Ladies Home Journal - Independence Square - Philadelphia - Editorial Rooms) to a Mrs. Nash, offering advice on wedding etiquette including guidelines on monograms for silver and linens and what men should wear at weddings and the usual order of the bridal party. Two dates: Feb.8, 1916 & Dec. 24, 1916. Clean copy.

Northfield, ME, September 30, 1908. White lined printed paper, Very good. 1 page, 26.5 x 20.5. This letter to Mr. Seth Gray in Marion, ME is handwritten from M.W. Doten on his professional stationary, which reads "Agent for the Tubular Cream Separators". He is advising on a bill for $4.95 for fertilizer, he will come to collect in the next week. On the back of the letter there is a small calculation of the price and a note saying "Receipt from M.W. Doten." Letterhead also states Dolen is a agent for Bradley Fertilizer. One 0.5 cm hole along the creases of the letter.

Chicago: International Harvester Company of America, c. 1920. Loose_leaf. Color illustrated folding pamphlet. Near fine. 15.5 x 8.5 closed, 48 x 30 cm. open. Large folding trade catalog featuring a necessity for American farmers, especially small farms that serviced the local community with milk, cream, and all milk products. The producer uses illustrations and text to highlight this well crafted machine. This pamphlet was produced for M.V. Moran, Orlando, W. Va. Clean and crisp copy - 2 cm. tear to one fold, otherwise solid.

c. early 1920's. Gray cardboard mount with black and white photo. Very good. 25 x 12 cm. (photo 18 x 13 cm.) Black and white mounted photo of women attending a National Grange festival. Beginning in the late 1800's, the Grange, formally known as the Patrons of Husbandry, was organized to assist farmers with the multitude of difficulties they experienced, primarily in rural environments. The Grange, unlike many organizations, allowed women to become members. This photo depicts nine women in similar dress displaying the national symbol - a sheaf of wheat.

With large and unusually detailed woodcut (10 x 12 cm.) on title-page revealing an extravagant banquet and a man vomiting, by H. Weiditz, with decorated woodcut initials. Set in schwabacher types with incidental fraktur. A treatise on the excesses of eating and drinking and the abuse and use of wine and other alcoholic beverages. Franck discusses several illnesses of the body and mind, real or imagined, that are caused by drunkenness - attributing a variety of social ills to due the consumption of alcohol - including blasphemy, idolatry, theft, murder and even the German Peasant War of 1525.
