The Executive Committee of the American Electric Railway Association, following their 1925 convention, authorized the formation of the Committee on Essential Features of Modern Cars to develop new car designs. The goal was to repalce older types of cars with "attractive, comfortable, light-weight modern cars" [p. 3]. This 88 page book is their report, illustrated with black and white photographs of street railway cars and several folding measured drawings of electric railway cars. An uncommon item; we locate no copies on OCLC. Very Good binding.

First published in 1780, this is the Third and Revised Edition of Coxe's Account of the Russian Discoveries, which added "The History of the Transactions and Commerce between Russia and China". According to Sabin, this edition has 3 folding maps and a chart, while Howes records it as having 4 maps and a chart. In any case, this copy has 3 maps and the chart. First Editions of two works by Robert Jenkin, bound together, both published by Smith and Walford in 1702. Jenkin served as an English clergyman and later master of St. John's College. An Account of the Life of Apollonius Tyaneus and A Brief Confutation of the Pretences against Natural and Revealed Religion, in one volume. Apollonius was translated by Jenkin from Louis-Sebastien Le Nain de Tillemont's Histoire des Empereurs, vol. II; an ecclesiastical historian, Le Nain was one of the first historians to provide critical surveys of the full range of ancient Roman source material, and was often cited in Gobbon's Decline and Fall. Acts passed by the General Assembly of Virginia concerning some railway and river companies of the Richmond area. Very scattered marginalia in ink. Previous owner's name stamped on the front pastedown, and stamped on the front board in gilt. Fully rebacked by a conservator using black Japanese tissue. Section of the original spine laid in. Half black leather over dark cloth covered boards. Overall in Very Good condition. Very Good binding.

The dustjacket presents nicely, with small chip at the top of the spine, and two small chips at the top of the rear panel. There is modest loss to the bottom of the spine, and a piece at the bottom has been reattached from the verso using heat-set tissue. Very Good+ binding / Very Good dust jacket.

A bright and attractive First Edition copy of these materials concerning the "Old Sixth" Massachusetts regiment, which consists of seven essays loosely related to the regiment. Slip "With the Compliments of B. F. Watson" stubbed in. Bud Robertson notes in Nevins that the "first recounts sketchily [the regiment's] involvement in the April 19, 1861 riot in Baltimore" [Nevins I, 175]. This copy was apparently given by Watson to Thomas E. Ballard, who notes in his own hand on p. 53 that he "was one of the men in Baltimore in 1861". In that year, Ballard was employed as a cabinet maker in a car factory in Worcester, and went to the front as a private with the "Old Sixth", and was with the regiment in Baltimore. The chaplain of the regiment, John Hanson, published an "Historical Sketch" of the regiment in 1866 in which he erroneously lists Ballard as one "slain in battle". It is signed Ray Stannard Baker [David Grayson was Mr. Baker's pen-name]. The second letter is a 3 1/2 page ALS to Mrs, Parker from Jessie G. Baker, Ray Baker's wife.
