New York: Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 1982. First American Edition. Near Fine. Deluxe limited first American edition, number 20 of 300 copies, signed by the Roald Dahl and illustrator Quentin Blake. Bound in publuisher's original red cloth stamped in gilt, housed in grey cloth-covered slipcase. Near Fine with a bump to one corner of the slipcase with a corresponding bump to the top corner of the covers of the book itself, else Fine.

B/G Sandwich Shops, 1924. Very Good. A single pictorial sheet (12.5" x 7.5") with a rounded top flap, folded a total of four times and illustrated in black, orange and blue, to create a postcard with space for stamp in corner. Very Good with light evidence of erased penciled address and notes on lines of postcard panel, rubbing along crease in middle of panel. Edges lightly worn. An illustrated ad for early 20th century American restaurant chain B/G Sandwich Shops, which paved the way for McDonald's by offering fast lunches, courteous service with tipping discouraged, a uniform design to various locations, and not selling alcohol. The ad contains the short piece "What is a B/G Sandwich Shop?," a photo of a typical restaurant, and plenty of boosterism declaring the chain to be 'Purely American." A neat little slice of America's rapidly-evolving food culture.

Fine in a completely unsophisticated, unclipped dust jacket with a lovely unfaded spine panel (all too often found sunned), small chips at extremities, some abrasions to back panel, Very Good+. A strong copy of the bestselling follow-up to Appointment in Samarra; it inspired a film in 1960.

New York: Modern Library, 1961. Hardcover. Very Good. Signed by O'Hara on title page, dated April 5, 1962. Former owner's name written on title page as well. A portion of a letter with O'Hara's Princeton, New Jersey address label and the former owner's name and address apparently written by O'Hara. Gray cloth with gilt and black stamping. 310 p. with six pgs of ads at rear. Very Good+ in Very Good+ dust jacket. Tiny stain on fore edge, front hinge a little free. Jacket price-clipped with a bit of rubbing.

Bound in publisher's blue cloth stamped in orange. Very Good or better, with scratching to cloth on rear cover, several previous owner names and small adhered number stamp ("29") to front endsheet, pages toned and faintly wavy and with bottom corners bumped, in a Very Good un-clipped dust jacket with spine faded, edge wear with chipping at spine ends and corners.

Near Fine, former owner's bookplate on paste down, small tape stains to rear endpapers, in a Very Good dust jacket, toned with age, spine darkened, archival mending tissue on verso mending split between spine and rear panels. Housed in a custom folding chemise with green leather, gilt-lettered title labels. The acclaimed British author's scarce first book, never reprinted. One of only 12 review copies printed preceding an edition of around 300. A collection of verse (Greene's only published poetry work) published when he was only 21 and dedicated to his parents. Later in life he grew to detest the book and vowed to destroy any copy he came across.

Bound in original black cloth lettered in blind on the upper board and in gilt on the spine. Near Fine with boards slightly splayed. Uncommon in the cloth issue.

Much less common than the British first edition.A collection of stories by a prolific British writer, now obscure but highly regarded in his time by fellow writers such as John Galsworthy and James Hilton.

Wraps unevenly toned and offset (it looks like some sort of makeshift spine label was made at one time, perhaps for a reference copy?), back cover a little stained. The basis of the 1943 film; titled Uncommon Danger in the UK.

The Lost Generation author's final novel. The basis of a successful play and the 1956 film by the same name about a violently psychopathic little girl named Rhoda Penmark.

London: W.H. Allen & Co, 1956. First UK Edition. Near Fine/Near Fine. First British edition. 200 pp. Original red cloth, spine lettered in gilt. Near Fine with a spine lettering a little dulled, very slight dust-soiling. In unfaded and unclipped pictorial dust jacket that is rubbed and lightly worn along edges, back panel a little scuffed and dust-soiled, basically Near Fine. An attractive copy. A mystery written by Bob Wade and H. Bill Miller under a collective pseudonym, rare in both its first American and British editions. Orson Welles used it as the basis for his 1958 noir film Touch of Evil, which initially didn't garner the critical recognition or audiences it deserved, as it was drastically edited by the studio with re-shoots by another, lesser director inserted throughout. Today, in the version including Welles' notes, it is recognized as one of Welles' best films and one of the best films noir of all time.
