David Hilliard,the Panther Chief of Staff. The New Haven Nine case charges ranged from criminal conspiracy to first-degree murder of Alex Rackley a fellow Panther. This pamphlet printed by German communists features a German transcription of an interview with Eldridge Cleaver. It also serves as a primer on the BPP to German audiences, introducing major figures, laying out the Party's 10 point program, and their political revolutionary philosophy. After being paroled, Cleaver met Huey Newton and Bobby Seale, who had just founded the Black Panther Party in Oakland, California. While Rutgers had a "Female Institute" for higher education since 1839, the school was accredited to award four-year degrees in 1867 and became Rutgers Female College, with a location on 5th Avenue in Manhattan. An important piece of history from one of the earliest four-year colleges open to women.

Bakke, 1978, is when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5 to 4 that a university's use of racial "quotas" in its admissions process was unconstitutional, but a school's use of "affirmative action" to accept more minority applicants was constitutional in some circumstances. The case involved the admissions practices of the Medical School of the University of California at Davis. The medical school reserved 16 out of 100 seats in its entering class for minorities, including "Blacks," "Chicanos," "Asians," and "American Indians." The rigid admissions quota was administered by a special school committee. Allan Bakke, a white applicant, was twice denied admission to the medical school even though his MCAT scores, GPA, and benchmark scores were "significantly higher" than those of some minority applicants recently admitted. This advance copy was distributed for reviews making it much scarcer than the first edition, it also predates the first edition. Bound proof bears wrinkling on the spine panel. Measures 4.25" x 7". Mark Tyron's notorious novel and banned book was originally published under the title Sweeter than Life. In 1953, undercover police officers in Los Angeles bought a copy of Sweeter Than Life from a bookseller named Eleazar Smith, and charged him with obscenity. Originally found guilty, Smith appealed the case to the U.S. Supreme Court, which then ruled in his favor. Later editions were published under the titled Twisted Loves and The Twisted Loves of Nym O'Sullivan. The Spook Who Sat by the Door is a 1973 action crime-drama based on the 1969 novel of the same name by Sam Greenlee, which was first published in the United Kingdom after being rejected by American publishers. The film is both a satire of the civil rights struggle in the US of the late 1960s and a serious attempt to focus on the issue of Black militancy. Dan Freeman, the protagonist, is enlisted by the CIA in its elitist espionage program, becoming its token Black person. After mastering agency tactics, he becomes disillusioned and drops out to train young Black people in Chicago to become "Freedom Fighters". Soon after its release, with the facilitation of FBI suppression, as author Sam Greenlee believed, the film was removed from theaters as a result of its politically controversial message. [Education] 19th-century Handwritten Barter Arithmetic Notebook of Samuel Weidner of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, December, 1808-1829. 62 handwritten pages. 12" x 7.5". Samuel Weidner was born in 1791 in Pennsylvania. This handwritten notebook contains 21 years of notes, with the first being dated 1808, and the last being 1829. The first half of his notes are from his later years of high school, as he was around 17 years old at the time of writing. This notebook centers upon barter arithmetic, the mathematic style studied in the until the later 19th century. Handwritten titles read "Loss and Gains", "Fellowship", "Exchange", On each page, his notes are typically organized with a title headline on top, a subheading detailing the mathematical rule, and examples of problem-solving and computations underneath, all by hand. In part: "That was a particularly gracious and heartwarming letter you sent to note my birthday. I do appreciate your good wishes. Even more, I appreciate the knowledge that I was able to be of some help to you in those days when you carried one of the heaviest burdens any man ever carried. I like your amendment to the MacArthur dictum. If we could only find men who have the vigor of youth and the wisdom of experience we could overcome all our problems." In fine condition. General Douglas MacArthur frequently quoted and referred to a poem called 'Youth' by Samuel Ullman, surely the "dictum" that Baruch mentions here.
