Near fine with light foxing to page edges.

One of the scarcer titles in Putnam's Sports Series "The Big League Library" and "wholesome sports reading for baseball fans, young and old" per Commissioner of Baseball Ford Frick (as quoted on the jacket). Very nearly fine with only minor shelf wear; in very good spine-toned and somewhat edge-rubbed dust jacket with light creasing, shallow chip at head of spine, and internal tape repair to few tears. Still, bright and attractive.

Adeline Lubell-Naiman was the editor instrumental in the eventual publication of THE NAKED AND THE DEAD. In 1946, while an editor at Little, Brown, Lubell-Naiman convinced Mailer to submit the first 200 pages of THE NAKED AND THE DEAD, which she talked up to her publisher. Unfortunately, she was also the one to suggest historian and critic Bernard DeVoto read the manuscript--he recommended not publishing.
