Ex-libris stamp of Trevor Hickman to front paste-down, toning to edges of textblock, light bumping to corners. Near fine. This biography follows the life of the renowned writer C. S. Forester, who was best known for his 'Hornblower' series. The biography begins with discussing Forester's early writing, and continues into his later career. This biography is a first edition and scarce to find.

Publisher's black soft covers, stapled twice. Rubbing and a few marks to covers. Very good. A booklet published to accompany the hit musical film based on Christopher Isherwood's book 'Berlin Stories' (1945) and play 'I am a Camera' (1951), directed by Bob Fosse, produced by Cy Feuer, and starring Liza Minnelli, Michael York, Helmut Griem, Marisa Berenson, Fritz Wepper and Joel Grey.

AB Tiprod, ETC, 1982. [Photography / Counter Culture] FIRST HARDCOVER EDITION. Text in Swedish. Oblong octavo (27 x 24cm). With 88 black and whiite photographs. White cloth hardcovers blocked in black, photographic dust-jacket. Book is fine, jacket near fine with a couple of small marks and tears. An attractive copy. First published in Germany as a softcover edition in 1978, this is the first edition to be published in the homeland of the photographer and the first hardcover printing. Evidently more scarce than the paperback. From 1967, Peterson spent three years photographing late-night regulars (prostitutes, transvestites, drunks, lovers and junkies) in Café Lehmitz, a red-light bar in Hamburg's Reeperbahn district. The resulting photobook has since become regarded as a seminal work in the history of European photography. One photo was used as the cover art for Tom Waits' 1985 album Rain Dogs.

A near fine copy of the book in a very good, price-clipped wrapper, lightly worn to spine tips and with a tape mark to reverse side of each flap. Shows well. The classic naval adventure, concerning a dilapidated minesweeper in the Pacific theatre, her slovenly crew, and her newly-appointed yet out-of-his depth captain. Chosen by Anthony Burgess as one of the best ninety-nine novels in English published since 1939. Basis for the 1954 Oscar-nominated film adaptation starring Humphrey Bogart as the unstable Commander Queeg.

Elegantly hand-bound in half mid blue oasis morocco over publisher's cloth sides with 'The Saint' stick man motif and book title blocked in black, spine gilt-lettered in six compartments with traditional raised bands. Clean throughout, small mark to top edge, cloth sides show minor handling and mild toning to edges. A near fine copy in an attractive recent leather binding. Simon Templar, alias The Saint, on two racket-busting adventures in New York and Chicago; 'The King of the Beggars' and 'The Masked Angel'. According to Paul Simpson (The Rough Guide to James Bond, p.47), 'The Saint' is a literary ancestor of 007, the debonair Simon Templar being a gentleman adventurer whose parallels with Bond are obvious. Publisher's dark blue cloth lettered in gold to spine, pictorial dust-jacket designed by Colin Andrews with printed price £2.25 to flap. Internally clean and bright, minor spotting to edges of textblock, dust-jacket a little creased on inside back cover, lettering faded on dust-jacket spine. Near fine. Koestler's tragi-comedy novel features a group of scientists discussing the reasons and solutions to the destructive human way of life, in the process finding themselves struggling with jealousy and aggression. This work is Koestler's return to fiction following a period of scientific writing. The novel features two short stories in the form of the prologue and epilogue.Upon publication, the novel was reviewed by Richard Holmes in The Times.

Publisher's blind stamped blue cloth, gilt titles to spine and in blind to upper, blue top edge, dust-jacket. With thirty two plates in colour and a sketch map of the country. Ownership to flyleaf, some spotting to edges. Cloth lightly handled with some sunning to parts of the spine. Wrapper toned and marked with some loss especially to the top and bottom of the spine panel. Uncommon in wrapper. Very good in a worn wrapper. Part of Black's Popular Series of Colour Books, this volume being a revised version of the same title which formed part of the A. and C. Black 20 Shilling series first published in 1907.

Cloth extremities slightly toned. Jacket toned to lower, some heavy damage and creasing to top extremity. Very good. 'Here is a book full of the philosophy and wisdom of Britain's heritage, written by a painter who has a sympathetic understanding of his subject' (blurb).

Printed on clay paper with frequent photographic illustrations. Contemporary dark green full morocco with raised bands and gilt titles and decoration to spine. A large gilt motif showing four national animals stamped to upper board. All edges gilt; marbled endpapers. Some rubbing and a little water staining to edges. Small repairs to last few pages. Some wear to binding, with some repairs to joints at head of spine. Very good. Certainly to be associated with the 'Twentieth Century Impressions' series begun the Australian Publisher Reginald Lloyd in 1901, but seemingly the familiar format has here been poached by another publisher.

London; Hodder and Stoughton. 1945. First edition. 8vo. Publisher's oatmeal cloth titled in black to spine. Lightly bumped to extremities, very good indeed. In a dustwrapper that has been somewhat misused, possibly by dastardly enemies of a foreign power. Tape has been used to reinforce the extremities and inner hinges, resulting in som unfortunate patches of discolouration. From the library of the fearless Otto Penzler, suggested that copies of this book are scarce in wrapper.

Publisher's black cloth lettered in red to spine with red embossed: 'By order, Captain Shannon' to upper board. Untrimmed edges. With sixteen halftone plates by Wilson, including a tissue-guarded frontispiece. Plate opposite p.184 becoming loose, ex-libris stamp front paste-down, some light and infrequent spotting throughout, toning and spotting to edges of textblock, rolling to spine. Very good. This novel is a detective story following a series of murders beginning in Ireland and then spreading to England. When the victims are uncovered, they have notes pinned to the bodies stating 'By order - Captain Shannon'.

With the pictorial dust-wrapper illustrated by Rowland Hilder. Contents clean, two bookplates to front endpaper. Very good in chipped jacket, with loss to spine ends and rear panel. Forester's only novel about the U.S. Navy, set during the War of 1812.

Very good. Forester's only novel about the U.S. Navy, set during the War of 1812.
