The expected age-mottling, rubbing and soil to boards, which are lightly bumped and dampstained in spots, with some chipping to the spines. Partially unopened texts, which bear some foxing and dog-ears. A good set, with quite tight bindings.

Edited by Joseph Wasse of Queen's College, and Chaplain to the Marchioness of Kent. With complete notes by Glareanus, Rivius, Ciacconius, Gruterus, Carrionis, Manutius, Putsch, and Dousa, and select notes by Castilione, Popma, Palmer, Ursino, Gronovius, etc. With various historical fragments, including a life of Sallust. An exhaustive edition of the first historical monographs: Sallust's gripping account of the Conspiracy of Catiline, and the War against the African prince Jugurtha. Some stains to flyleaves, and toning to first few leaves, otherwise remarkably clean internally, in plain early calf, the leather split in some places.

Dampstaining to endpapers and first 32 pages, last blank pages. Block tight. Most of text is clean, without staining. A nice early 19th century American binding.

Interior text fine. Dust jacket has a few tiny chips at joints, flaps, ansd two large closed tears to rear panel with no loss of text.

Except for two plates illustrating important resources (the beaver and the seal), the plates represent trades. 12mo., 13.5 x 9 cm. In a scruffy, contemporary binding of rustic appearance: worn and soiled gray paper over chipped, scabbard boards, with a leather backstrip laid down. The front hinge is split but the bookblock is sound. Contemporary ink ownership ("Isaac Brown, Jan 1st, 1825") on reverse of frontispiece and some juvenile pencil squiggles in a few margins. [xii], 204 pp. Octavo, publisher's green cloth binding, decorated in dark green with gilt lettering on upper board and spine, top edge trimmed and gilt, other edges untrimmed. Ink ownership stamp and a printed poem, "Spring" by Lalia Mitchell Thornton, (perhaps clipped from a periodical and) laid down to ffep. The binding is a bit faded and dulled on spine, with negligible wear at corners and both ends of spine, but still attractive. It is clean within and in very good condition overall. Sharlot Hall (American, 1870-1943), poet and writer, became the first woman in territorial Arizona to hold public office, in 1909, as Territorial Historian of Arizona. A collection of artifacts and documents she donated in 1927 is the nucleus of the museum of Arizona history that now bears her name, the Sharlot Hall Museum in Prescott. (viii) 100, 141, 96, 88, 82, 126, 100pp. plus 37 plates and several tables, three of them folding. Fifth edition, revised and enlarged. Contemporary calf-backed marbled boards. Seven "Cahiers" cover anatomy, zoology, botany and geology, each with five to seven engraved plates, and one hand-colored folding plate showing a geological cross-section. An interesting indication of the high standard of primary education in the sciences at this time. Light wear to extremities, and one hinge of folding plate fragile, else fine.

Preserved among the Archives of the Corporation of the City of London, at the Guildhall. Part One [only], 1258-1358. 8vo., burgundy cloth, lettered in gilt; t.e.g. Bookplate. A good copy only, as hinges are cracked, binding mildly shaken. Slight fraying to cloth at extremes, slight soil and sun to boards. Touch of age browning to edges of text, but a serviceable working copy.

Presentation copy inscribed by Philip Hofer, previous owner of the manuscript. Good condition, blue "calico" detail wrappers printed in silver. Rear wrapper chipped 4 inches at top edge of spine, with another 1/2 inch chip to fore-edge. Tiny chip to fore-edge of front cover and small closed tear to top of spine. The missing pieces are laid in. Printed in speia on cream paper. A delightful piece of Nonsense ephemera.

Twelve quarto folders, each designed by a different press, and each presenting a poem by an eminent California poet, with a commentary by the author. The folders are fine, and are housed in a blue cloth slipcase, which is a little crushed and edgeworn, with worn leather spine labels. Laid-in are three announcements for various numbers on Book Club of California letterhead. The presses are: Quercus Press, Aucune Press, Platen Press, Aquarius Press, Pioneer Hand Printing Society of La Canada, Hart Press, Masque Press, Toyon Press, Greenwood Press, Eucalyptus Press, L-D Allen Press. The poets include: Gelett Burgess, Stanton A. Coblentz, Wallace Irwin, Genevieve Taggard, Marie de L. Welch, Josephine Miles, Janet Lewis, Yvor Winters, Muriel Rukeyser, Hildegarde Flanner, Donald Weeks, Robinson Jeffers.

1949. (BOOK CLUB OF CALIFORNIA). CALIFORNIA CLIPPER CARDS. San Francisco, Grabhorn Press/Book Club of California, 1949. An incomplete set: Eight of twelve facsimile cards (numbered 1 to 8) with a note by Elizabeth Downs, secretary to the Book Club of California, dated September 22, 1949, stating that parts 9 to 12 were "in preparation and would be sent to members by the end of the year." The set of twelve was completed, even if this particular set was not. The cards announce the sailings of "clipper" ships to San Francisco and are facsimiles of originals in the Bohemian Club. 1/850 copies. "Cards" are tipped into single folded sheets with text explanations by various authors. Stored in a blue cloth- covered portfolio and housed in a matching blue cloth-covered slipcase with leather spine labels. The box is lightly sunned at spine and the labels are edge-clipped. Internally fine.

Authors include Gelett Burgess, Genevieve Taggard, Murial Rukeyser. Housed in a blue cloth-covered portfolio and blue cloth-covered slipcase, backed in brown morocco, gilt to spine. Wear, and a touch of sun to portfolio; scuffing and much wear to slipcase spine, which is separated but present; slipcase also bears slight soil. Internally fine.

Lightly soiled with some pencil linings to upper wrapper and a dampstain which does not effect text. Edges are lightly worn with small closed tears and nicks to spine. Protective cover is worn. Fine internally.
