The dust jacket a crease to the front flap, a small section of creasing to the bottom edge of the front panel, about 1 inch tall and 2 inches wide, not very noticeable though since the cover has been protected with a clear, removable cover. Light gray boards are clean, and the corners are not bumped or worn. Author name and title on the spine in gold, all lettering is crisp and not rubbed or worn. There is a bump mark to the front board, about 1/2 inch long, about the same area as the previously mentioned creasing, most likely from shelf wear. Classic French satire first published in 1759, the story of Candide, the optimist who eventually becomes disillusioned with society after witnessing and experiencing hardships. Translated by Richard Adlington, illustrations by Sylvain Sauvage - a total of twenty illustrations. 147 pages, 6-3/4" X 10-1/4". Edition is not clearly marked, this is most likely the edition from the late 1940's. Former owner's name written in blue ink at the top corner of the first flyleaf page.
