Separate pagination and title pages; with title page vignettes and tailpieces. Published by the 'Societatis Literatae' of Mannheim, and edited by Gabriel Brotier. With a folding table bound in between Volumes II and III. Scattered annotations in pencil. Some wear to the binding; rubbing to the boards; and the beginnings of a vertical crack to the bottom of the spine, at the beginning of Volume III. Half calf with a black leather label, gilt lettering, over marbled paper boards. All edges blue. Very Good. Very Good binding.

Stapled magazine; in printed wrappers; [1], 26 pages; "An Independent Journal Containing Reliable Information About the Panama-California Exposition and Devoted to the Interests of the Stockholder, Homeseeker and Tourist".~~With advertisements, and a photographic illustration on the cover: "Fifth Street, One of San Diego's Business Sections".~~With a rather "Babbitt-like" slogan: "If we print it it's a boost".~~This periodical "boosting" the Exposition is most uncommon; at this time we are able to locate but two institutional holdings, both in California. near Very Good binding.

Very Good binding. 8vo.; in the publisher's blue cloth; Printed for a few friends, NOT PUBLISHED.~~Second, but still scarce, edition of Associate Supreme Court Justice Field's memoirs of his "early days" in California. This is the first edition to included the account by Judge Gorham of the attempted assassination of Field by former Associate on the California Supreme Court David Terry. With paper inscribed "Compliments of Mr. Justice Field" pasted to the title page (note, we do not believe that this is Fields' signature -- probably the hand of a clerk or secretary). ~~Field was appointed by President Lincoln to the Supreme Court in 1863; he had gone to California during the Gold Rush years and while there his legal career took off. He had a pretty wild time in California, and this account depicts his legal life and adventures with vivacity and color. Pretty amazing stuff. (Howes F117; Graff 1316; Cowan 209). Very Good binding.

This "Calendar of the Night" has aphorisms by the Romanian author and professor Calin-Andrei Mihailescu as well as twelve black and white line drawings by Ion Barbu, a Romanian caricaturist. The aptly named "Calendar of Night" contains sections to inscribe one's dreams and the happenings that occur in a certain evening. Text in Romanian. A clean copy, signed by the author with a personal inscription on the first leaf. Near Fine binding.

Illustrated throughout with woodcut illustrations, and additional decorative elements in gold, black and grey. With prospectus laid in, as well as Elfriede Abbe's curriculum vitae. A sumptuous production.

The jacket has not been price-clipped, and has the correct First Edition price of $2.00 on the flap. There is about a 1" piece gone from the top the jacket spine, and about 2" from the bottom. The N. C. Wyeth illustration to the front panel is mostly present, but has a 1/2" x 1" amount of loss at the top edge of the illustration and there is minor loss at the front fold. The front of the jacket was in two pieces, and has been discreetly repaired on the verso. Very Good binding / Fair dust jacket.

First Edition of a work by a major author of English mystery literature, Eden Phillpotts' The Captain's Curio. Following Detective-Inspector Midwinter of Scotland Yard, investigating the murder of Martin Knox, a kindly and well-to-do member of the sleepy village of Daleham-on-Exe. Text is unmarked. Small tear to the top of the front joint of the dustjacket, sunning to the spine, slight shadow of a dampstain on the bottom of the spine, and small surface loss at the top of the spine. Red cloth with black lettering. Top edge black. Overall in Very Good condition with Very Good dustjacket. 1880. A leatherbound Carte de Visite album with metal clasp belonging to "Mrs. Sue F. Terrell, Golansville, Virginia". The album is full with 26 cartes de visite and 4 tintypes; there are two unbound cdv's laid in that seem to belong with the collection but do not fit in. Nearly all of the cdv's have handwritten identifications of the sitters, and the handwriting appears to be the same. Several names appear multiple times, and include "Scruggs" "Terrell" "Smith" and "Stevens". The families clearly intermingled, and some of the names are "Mattie Wood Scruggs", "Mollie Wood Terrell", Ida and Wilbur W. Smith; "Elijah Jacob and Nannie N. Stevens Smith". The Terrell family was well established in Caroline County from at least the late 1700's. There is one particularly striking tintype image of T. W. Wood playing the violin. The album is in good shape, though some of the mounts are broken and have minor loss. Backmarks include Richmond and Charlottesville photographers.

New York: G. W. & C. B. Colton, 1886. A smaller version of Colton's "New Map of Long Island" issued in 1882. This edition 9" x 22", folding into brown embossed cloth covers, lettered in gilt. The map is Fine; the covers are sharp as well.

London: Printed for J. Butterworth, and J. Cooke, 1806. Second Edition. Full Leather. Good binding. Volume I only. Contemporary owner's name at the top of the title page and on the front pastedown. Fully rebacked with sympathetic Japanese tissue, and a modern leather label on the spine. Full calf, with minor surface loss to the edges of the boards. Good binding.
