Description:
Enrico Caruso Autograph Letter Signed to his son, Rudolfo, with self portrait. Based on Caruso's reference in this letter, Fofo, as Rudolfo was known, was studying in an academy in Florence at the time. Caruso begins by criticizing his son for not writing in his, "own hand writing, whether it is good or bad. I hope I will soon receive such a letter, so I will be happier...." Caruso infers that his son likes boarding school then offers advice for success. "Be serious and make everyone love you, especially...the superiors (higher grades)...." Caruso does not know when he will see his son but offers to send stamps and hopes "to hug" him in "May or October." He ends with an expression of love, then signs, "Papa." Caruso sketches his face in profile under, "Papa." The four page letter was penned on a folded card measuring 3 1/2 x 3 inches closed, with decorative center fold perforation. The card comes in a card folder with a greeting in English on the cover. Perhaps Caruso wrote to his son from England… Read More

Description:
Bagnold's best known novel is "National Velvet" (1935). Her most successful play is "The Chalk Garden." Both of her best known works were made into well received films. On the first free end paper of our copy of "The Chalk Garden", extending onto the inside cover as well as the inside dust jacket, Bagnold has drawn a colorful seaside sketch of her own home, Rottingdean, in Sussex, England. Her garden at Rottingdean inspired the play's setting. She dedicates her charming drawing to drama and film writer, Terrence Rattingan (1911-77) whose bookplate is affixed to the inside cover. She writes, "For Darling Terry....This is how Rottingdean should be...." She signs, "Enid." She identifies her "Palace" and "Terry's House" as well as "The Sea" in her sketch. The drawing is rendered in red pen and water color. With the program for the play's 1956 production in London at the "Theatre Royal Haymarket" directed by John Gielgud. The book is very good condition overall with a slight stain in the upper right to the… Read More

Description:
Houdini is known as one of the greatest escapologists  and stunt performers, as well as a skeptic and investigator of spiritualists. He was also a film producer and actor. The illusion of mind reading intrigued Houdini. Both he and Zancig had little to do with each other though both belonged to the Society of American Magicians. Houdini doubted mentalist Julius Zancig's ability to self proclaimed ability. In this three piece correspondence Zancig reveals his trick. This correspondence began with Zancig's Aug. 8 TLS to Houdini on "How to Thought Picture... here is the secret Harry nd (sic) no one lese (sic) has it but you up to this time...you promise not to Devulge (sic) it to any one here..." Houdini replied first with a three page holograph letter including bold capital letters detailing what he did not understand about Zancig's trick. The letter is not in is hand but is most likely a draft of the typed letter he sent to Zancig. The typed letter included in this group varies from the hand written… Read More
