Page size: 10-3/8 x 7-3/8 inches Handsomely bound in3/4 green morocco and pastepaper boards; spine paneled, title gilt; top edge gilt, original Covers bound in, fine. 12 pages of abstract designs after delicate pen drawings by Karl Flinker, who serves here as both artist and publisher. The colophon reads: "Realise par Karl Flinker, cet ouvrage a ete acheve d'imprimer en mail mil neuf cent cinquante neuf sur les presses de l'imprimerie Baguenier Desormeaux a Paris sous la direction technique de G. Chassery". Henri Michaux, French poet of Belgian origin, supplied the pretext for Flinker's designs with this poetry called "Paix dans les brisements", the recitation of his dreams and hallucinations.

Marshfield Hills, MA, 2012. Artist's book, one of six copies, all on a range of papers, each copy signed and numbered by the artist, Viola Kaeumlen. Page size: box of 13 pouches (tied with brown silk ribbon) as envelopes holding the "letters" and related material written by the artist, printed list of contents, box size closed is 5.5 x 7.5 x 2.25 inches. Bound by the artist: two-part box is brown book cloth over boards and adorned with medallion of young woman; box fastened tan silk cord woven through eight holes in the 2 parts of the box, lined with Canson BFK Rives Tan paper. The artist's statement and the colophon explain that the book contains texts of letters written by Mrs. Mary Arthur to her daughter Beatrice Arthur over the period from 1927 - 1935 that were found in an old suitcase by Ms. Kaeumlen in 2010 in flea market on the Boston South Shore. Humorous tale comprising fragments from the personal journal of a ill-fated writer-philosopher from Geneva, Henri-Frederic Amiel (1821-1881), who at the age of 27 embarked on an exhausting and wholly unsuccessful quest for the "perfect" wife, edited by 20th century novelist and and critic, Leon Bopp.

Paris: Bordas, 1947. One of 2000 copies all on Lana pur fil paper, numbered, from a total issue of 2070. 8vo; handsomely rebound in 3/4 bordeaux morocco, marbled paper over boards, spine panelled, author and title in gilt, teg, original wrappers bound in. Each page illustrated with original colored lithographs by Raymond Peynet often with the text surround the images. The text was printed by Draeger Freres, the lithographs were pulled by Mourlot Freres. The opening illustrations are of Paris at Christmas with a Christmas tree, gifts, and skaters. The charming art work continues with French gendarmes directing traffic posted at the four corners of one page, elephants, diagonal lines of cafe et croissants, etc., all a wonderful evocation of Paris. Elsa Triolet (1896-1970) of Russian origin owes with her partner Louis Aragon she was a founding memeber of the Comite National des Ecrivains and worked on the clandestine Les Lettres francaises. One of 200 on velin blanc with an extra suite of the illustrations in color from a total issue of 1350; handsomely rebound in 3/4 green morocco and marbled paper boards, spine with gilt lettering, marbled endpapers, t.e.g., original wrappers and backstrip bound in. Illustrated with 10 reproductions in color hors-texte after pen and watercolor sketches by Gaston Barret, as well as one sketch in black line, all portraying picturesque corners within the city, including quiet spots in the Marais and Montmartre.

First Edition, one of 20 copies only, with 30 original etchings, a combination of mezzotints, aquatints, drypoints, and linocuts, all by the artist Nicolette Jelen, pulled by the publisher, Vincent FitzGerald. This is a story without words (in the manner of Lynd Ward) in four sections: "The Point of View of the House," "The Point of View of the Pool," "The Point of View of the Tree," "The Point of View of the Dog." Page size: 9 x 12 inches, 72 French-fold leaves. Bound: Japanese style binding in purple and green Japanese cloth by Zahra Partovi and housed in matching fold-over case, near fine with scratch on front of slipcase showing trace of sunning at extremities. Witty and charming, one of the splendid publications from Vincent FitzGerald, now out of print from the publisher.

[New York: By the Artist, 1994. First Edition, one of 35 copies, all on Fabriano Ingres paper, each signed and numbered by the artist. Page size: 2-1/8 x 1-15/16 inches. Bound: oriental fold, front and back boards covered in Moriki dark mauve-brown paper with "open" printed in black with a red arrow on front foredge 3/8 inch x 1/2 inches; housed in bemboka oatmeal paper case with flaps and elastic band. Illustrated with eight one-color etchings. The artist, a collector of buttons, has presented them here in all their intriguing variety. Printed one per page in Van Dyck brown and matching the cover color, they are brightened by the addition of colored threads that pierce the paper appear to sew them to the page. By featuring these valued fasteners, the artist reveals the fallacy in the expression that provides the book's only text: "Don't care" on the first page and "a button" on the last.

First Edition of the Author's First Book. 12mo; 132pp; + 8pp. ads for "Publications of the National Temperence Society"; brick-colored cloth, printed in gold gilt with black decorations, rubbed at all edges, especially corners and spine, soiling to most pages at margins, "Don't Drink" on page 7 with large erasure with loss of 4 or 5 words, good only. Ella Wheeler Wilcox (1850-1919), poet and journalist, wrote her first novel at age 9. By the age of 14, she had successfully submitted some prose sketches to the New York Mercury. She left school to devote her time to her writing, hoping to escape family poverty through her pen. She did attend the University of Wisconsin in 1867. In 1872, she published a collection of temperance poems which won a small audience.
