Condition: recently rebound in mid 19th style of Half tan Morroco leather and marbled paper. Illustrations are in pristine comdition having been cleaned of foxing

Consists of binder's leaf, frontpiece, titlepage, imprint- Stereotyped by J. Fagan, Printed by T. K.and F. G. Collier, Dedication, Preface dated October 1850. Pages 17-327. * illustrations by H. K. Browne. Titled in gilt with illustration of "the friendly waiter". 9x5.5. Perhaps a variant - covering as Smith listed for "Cloth" but contents are more in line with his "Boards" issue. illustrations are inserted in pages differing from his cloth list. Frontpiece is plate 7 as listed for cloth. The "1" is missing on pages 21 and 31.Condition: A very collectible issue. Rebacked with new cloth and large fragment of original spine laid on. New end papers. Text and illustrations free of foxing. Paper aged as usual. Does not contain "Contents" page and catalogue. Board edges are scuffed.

Contains - half title, frontpiece. vignette title page, title page dated 1850, Imprint - Bradbury and Evans, Printers, Whitefriars, Dedication. 2 page Preface, 5 page Contents, 2 page List of Plates, 6 line erratta. Firm, tight text block has only occasional foxing dots, pages and plates with minor age darkening along edges, front piece has been reinforced, first several pages have light chipping at the corners.
