Description:
New York: Osprey Publishing, 2011. 1st Printing. Soft Cover. Near Fine. 7x0x9. Palmer, Ian; Gerrard, Howard. First printing. Spine base lightly bumped. 2011 Soft Cover. 80 pp. During WWII, German E-Boats were so active in the English Channel that the narrow stretch of water became known as 'E-Boat Alley'. To counter the threat of these E-Boats, Britain brought its coastal forces to bear - flotillas of small Motor Torpedo and Gun Boats (MTBs and MGBs) and Motor Launches (MLs). As the Germans sought to maintain their supremacy in Channel waters, they continued to develop their E-Boat designs to accommodate more armor and more firepower. Rather than matching the newer E-Boats for armament, the British developed several types to fulfill the varied roles for which the Kriegsmarine were attempting to use the E-Boat. This book details this developing conflict, examining the evolution of the boats involved, and covering the their battles from fights in the Thames estuary to the build-up for D-Day.

Tainan Research & Publishing, 2012. First Edition. Large Softcover. Near Fine. 8x1x10. First edition. Minor edge wear. 2012 Large Softcover. 352 pp. On original release in 2012, Eagles of the Southern Sky was hailed worldwide as the first detailed history of a Japanese air unit to be published anywhere. It has since been translated into Japanese. The Imperial Japanese Tainan Naval Air Group enjoyed the highest prestige of any Japanese aerial unit in the Second World War. It was assigned to New Guinea in April 1942, confident of victory, having already conquered the Philippines and Netherlands East Indies. However, by mid-November 1942 only eighteen pilots from the original cadre sailed home from Rabaul, marking the end of an era. Eight months of combat had destroyed the unit, and no Air Group had fought more relentlessly than the Tainan did in New Guinea. Eagles of the Southern Sky outlines the definitive history of this flagship unit in New Guinea, sourcing material from all sides. The book… Read More

New York: Osprey, 2013. 1st Printing. Soft Cover. Fine. 6x0x9. Rava, Giuseppe. First printing. An exceptional copy. 2013 Soft Cover. 64 pp. The civilisations of the Greece in the Ancient World have inspired and fascinated throughout European history. The stories of Homer, later reinforced by the pioneering archaeological work carried out by men such as Heinrich Schliemann at Mycenae and Sir Arthur Evans at Knossos, have enabled modern researchers and historians to piece together a rich material culture and reconstruct the mysteries of the Ancient World. The mainland and islands of Greece were extensively settled by peoples moving from Asia Minor in c.5000 BC, while a further wave in c.5000 BC introduced bronze-working to the region. It is form this point on that it is possible to discern a distinct Cycladic or Aegean civilisation, developing at roughly the same time as the Egyptian and Persian civilisations. Further to the south, the Minoan civilisation based on Crete held sway, and this power -… Read More

A gripping tale of a family’s decline from power, Bromfield’s Early Autumn is a can’t miss tour-de-force that changed literature of the 1920’s. Reminiscent of the power struggle, wealth on display, and drama played out a-la Succession, Downton Abbey, and The Great Gatsby, this work was a predecessor of the palace intrigue novel that would become so popular in the coming decades. For many years, the Pentland name was synonymous with wealth, status, and class. But after the First World War, the family's position was challenged by a new wave of… Read More

Description:
New York: Harry N. Abrams, Inc, 1997. First Edition. Large Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. 10x0x11. First edition. 1997 Large Hardcover. 179 pp. Beginning more than a century ago, a photographer named Seneca Ray Stoddard explored and documented the Adirondacks in a series of brilliant black-and-white images. This book presents the first major collection of that work. Stoddard, who grew up on the outskirts of the region, came to know its varied glories by hiking, camping, and canoeing its length and breadth. He pictured not just the softly rounded peaks of the area, the mirrored lakes, and pine-decked groves, but the burgeoning and popular hotels, the local guides with their indigenous craft (the elegant Adirondack guide boats), the loggers, hunters, and legions of rusticators who rushed up each summer from New York City, Philadelphia, and elsewhere to experience a wild and beautiful America that was already disappearing. John Wilmerding sets the scene by placing Stoddard's work in the artistic… Read More
