Very good with spine showing slight fading and rubbing to silver lettering which is nonetheless bright; in good, somewhat soiled dust jacket darkened on spine and along edges, chipped at spine ends, and with author's name on spine faded and all four flap corners clipped, presumably as issued. Relatively scarce in dust jacket.

New York: Junior Literary Guild, 1930. First edition thus. Printed from the Harcourt plates with reset title page. "Chosen by the editors of the Junior Literary Guild ... as the selection for October, 1930, sent to Older Girls between the ages of 12-16 years." Seventy poems for young people with introduction by Sandburg and illustrations by James Daugherty. 8vo silver-stamped blue moire cloth; 136 pages. Near fine with barest rubbing to edges; in very good dust jacket with quarter-inch chipped from head of spine, and internal tape repair to few splits and tears. All four corners of dust jacket flaps clipped, presumably as issued. Somewhat surprisingly this seems to have been a much nicer production than the true first edition.

Number 94 of 250 copies SIGNED BY EVERSON & KILLION who provides the five superb dark blue linoleum prints, including the 14.5 x 9" crucifixion triptych spanning the double-page extra-illustrated title page. 10 x 15.5" quarter tan cloth side-stitched with leather thong, decorative paper-covered boards. In publisher's wood slipcase covered with decorated paper (10.25 x 16.125"). Very fine in like slipcase. As new. Publisher's prospectus laid in.

In a dust jacket that is also near fine, with a small closed tear to the bottom right corner of the front panel and a light touch of damp staining to the upper left of the back panel, but otherwise the most minimal of wear.

First printing with 416 pages. Not published in the UK until 1954 nor the U.S. until 1972. Tan, rough cloth boards stamped in brown on front and spine; top edge reddish brown. Mild bump to lower rear spine corner otherwise fine in bright, fine dust jacket with just a touch of minor wear. A scarce book due to its war-time publication, especially in dust jacket and this nice condition.

London: Duckworth & Co., 1902. First edition. The hardcover issue, which would appear to be more scarce than the simultaneously issued softcover. Collection of short stories in "Duckworth's Greenback Library" series. 12mo green cloth stamped in black; 182 pages. This copy with small, tasteful bookplate of cartoonist Claude Smith. Bright and near fine with endpapers a bit darkened.

(Barcelona): Plaza & Janes, S. A., (1975). True first edition. Published in Spain; text in Spanish. Green textured-paper boards, gilt and white stamped spine. Dust jacket with gold wrap-around band printed in red, as issued. Near fine with base of spine crimped and lightly penciled notations (in Spanish) throughout; in near fine dust jacket with light foxing to upper rear panel and touch of rubbing to spine ends.

Norfolk: New Directions, (1942). First edition. In the New Directions "Poet of the Month" series. His second collection of poetry. Fine in plain stiff paperwraps in dust jacket which is slightly faded on spine and has a small crease at top of front panel. There was also a small simultaneous edition in boards.

Chapel Hill: Algonquin Books, 1987. First edition of her first book, the reportedly semi-autobiographical story of an 11-year-old girl shunted from place to place after her mother's death until, at 12, "she discovers a home where at last she is wanted and loved" (from the jacket flap). INSCRIBED BY GIBBONS on title page, "For Walter Sullivan -/ With all grades/ of/ Respect and/ warmest wishes/ Kaye Gibbons/ May 4, 1999" and with AUTOGRAPH NOTE SIGNED by Gibbons laid in. Written in red ink on lined 3 x 5" card, it reads, "May 4, 1999/ Dear Walter -/ I'm pleased to sign/ your book - so very flattered to be on/ your bookshelves. Thank you and/ everyone in The Fellowship for all you/ do for writing in the South./ Best,/ Kaye Gibbons."
