Warm inscription on the half-title page from the author to "Patricia" (Patricia Bowman, 1908-1999, founding member of the American Ballet Theater, who poses in photographs here on pp. 69-73, and is described as "America's foremost dancer of ballet"). Publisher's brown cloth with beige spine lettering, octavo, pp. xv, 318. Decorated endpapers. Illustrations. Front hinge is growing tender. Shelf rubs at spine ends, board tips, and on lower edge. GOOD condition, withal.

Publisher's green cloth with spine and upper board decorations, 12mo, pp. v, 206. Previous owner name and 1925 date in a small hand on free front end-paper. Small faded bookseller ticket at bottom of rear paste down. GOOD-only with shelf rubs to spine ends and board tips. Some spotting on page edges. Small old coffee-like stain on upper board near fore-edge.

Publisher's original olive green cloth with spine lettering gilt, octavo, pp. 64. First edition in this format. Edward Lear (1812-1888) published his original parrot drawings in a twelve-part folio between 1830 and 1832 under the title "Illustrations of the family of Psittacidae, or parrots." Here, beautifully reproduced from that London original, are all 42 plates with a descriptive index.

Hardcover. First edition, octavo, pp. vi, 387. Frontis illustration of Kemble from a portrait by Thomas Sully. Illustrated endpapers. Very Good with just light shelf wear in the publisher's maroon cloth over boards with gilt spine and upper board lettering and gilt upper board decorative device. Wanting the dust jacket.

Publisher's original orange cloth with black spine lettering, octavo, pp. 189. Black and white illustrations. INSCRIBED by the author to a previous owner on free front endpaper verso. Author SIGNED a second time, lower on the same page. On rear pastedown near gutter, same previous owner has written his name vertically in ink. Two paper items, held in place by tape long ago, have either been removed from the pastedowns or the tape dried completely and they dropped out, resulting in old brown tape shadows (no stickiness or residue). Brief underlining in passage pertaining to Ayers Rock on pp. 187 and 188. Dust jacket with a short tear at top edge of rear panel at spine, and a splash mark from coffee or tea on rear fold flap. Finally, the publisher manufactured the dust jacket a tad too short for the book. Jacket now protected in removable Brodart. Book and jacket about GOOD condition, withal.

Publisher's bevel-edged decorated brown cloth, octavo, pp. 167 plus pp. 6 ads. Large 19th century Christmas gift notation on free front endpaper. Tissue-guarded frontispiece and other illustrations, perfect against Table of Contents. Fore-edge of the free front endpaper has a short horizontal slit at midpoint. Spine ends and board tips rubbed. Some bottom edge rubbing, as well. Foxing, heavier on the endpapers; lighter in the text. Some leaves have evidence of a shallow old tide-line in top-edge margin. GOOD condition, withal.

Publisher's brown cloth with lettering and elaborate decoration gilt, octavo, pp. 131 plus pp. 4 ads. Gift notation from 1887 on free front endpaper in a small neat hand. Tissue-guarded frontispiece and other illustrations, perfect against Table of Contents. Spine ends and board tips rubbed through. Some bottom edge rubbing, as well. Light foxing.

Publisher's olive-green cloth, sunned at spine and board tips, with farm vignettes on upper board and spine. Upper board vignette and gilt lettering within single-ruled gilt border, octavo, pp. 187, [1]. Tissue-guarded frontispiece and many other illustrations throughout by Will Vawter. Previous owner tasteful book plate on front paste down. First printing, with 17 titles listed on page [ii], as called for in BAL 16762.

Graduation exercises held Thursday, June 7th, 1917. Measures 6 x 4 1/2 inches. GOOD with light wear and rear panel toning. Ensconced in a clear new Ultra-Pro sleeve.

Includes Florida, Georgia, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Indian Territories, Iowa, and Kansas. Publisher's blind-ruled brown cloth, octavo, paginated serially 649 - 1261. An ex-school library copy, with old and faded call letters at the foot of the spine and a small bookplate on the front pastedown. FAIR condition with spine rubs and shelf bumping of board tips. NOTE also that in the Illinois section, the bottom corner of pp. 1025/1026 is missing with some loss of text (see our photo image).

Publisher's blue cloth with spine lettering gilt, small quarto (9 1/4 x 6 1/4 inches), pp. 278, [4]. NOTE that this is a work of Fiction, yet there are two excellent photographs of actual African-American Civil War Troops at the rear of the book: (1) Soldiers from Company E, 4th USCT (United States Colored Troops); and (2) Soldiers from the 107th USCT.

Publisher's russet cloth with gold spine and upper board lettering and a rifle and flag vignette gilt, quarto, pp. vi, [8], 1-333. Black and white illustrations. Note that the folded leaf bearing pp. 129-132 has come loose from the binding and is simply laid in at the proper place. Mild shelf rubs to the cloth at spine ends and board tips. Old small bookstore ticket at bottom of front endpaper. GOOD condition, withal. FAIR-only dust jacket has chipping at spine ends and flap fold points. Loss of a small amount of paper from front panel upper edge and a smattering of small holes on rear panel at lower edge near spine. Old piece of tape at crown of spine for a long-ago mend to the paper there. Jacket protected now from further wear by a new sheet of removable Brodart. Publisher's illustrated gray wrappers, octavo, pp. 58 plus pp. xii contemporary ads. Color botanical frontis but no other illustrations used. Just a bit of shelf wear but easily Very Good and ensconced now in a clear protective display sleeve.

The scarce and preferred Second edition, Revised and Updated. Brown stiff wrappers, octavo, pp. xviii, 256. Maps on endpapers. A section of black and white illustrations follows page 222. GOOD condition with light shelf wear. Printed at the renowned Anthoensen Press in Portland, Maine.

Publisher's blue laminate spine over mustard-colored boards, octavo, pp. ix, 366 plus author's Afterwords. A light, not impressively manufactured book. First Edition is stated on title page verso, but this is not a First Printing, with code "M50" in the lower margin of page 365 instead of the necessary "M36." Previous bookseller's notations in pencil on free front endpaper. Dust jacket is FAIR-only with nicks and shallow erosion at spine ends and flap fold tips. Several tears on jacket edges. Jacket protected against further wear now by a removable sheet of mylar.

Publisher's orange cloth with black spine lettering, quarto, pp. 121. Colour frontispiece and seven other full-page colour plates, as called for. Many other illustrations in monotone. Very Good with just light wear. Illustrated dust jacket Good only with closed tears, nicks, and small pieces missing at top edge of rear panel (see photo). Jacket now protected in removable mylar.

Color-illustrated pictorial wrappers, small quarto, pp. [16]. Shelf rubbing and wear at spine ends and wrapper tips and their edges. Spine ends and wrapper tips also bumped mildly. Some foxing on page edges. Old price sticker removal shadow near top of front panel. The 8 pop-ups are bright and fully functional, in Very Good condition and without tears. Printed in the USSR.
