Peat bogs and operations are described state by state, with deposits, quality, supply, and commercial prospects. Potential uses include iron manufacture, steam generation, heating, gas from peat, peat in gunpowder and fireworks, chemical products, peat for use in pavements, paper, building, tanning, antiseptics, disinfectants, and fertilizer. FIRST EDITION. Advertisement in verse and prose for the firm's product, New England Mince Meat. Die-cut pages and stiff wrappers to imitate pie. This charming booklet served as a premium, which could be received in return for five box fronts from New England Condensed Mince Meat. For twenty box fronts, the mince meat fan could receive this booklet, along with a set of paper dolls, 'The Fairies Children", and a large-scale reproduction of Kaber's painting, "The Fairy's Pie". Some light staining to a few pages; staples rusting a bit. Still near very good, in ribbon-tied, and embossed, chromolithograph wrappers. Scarce. [OCLC locates seven copies].

Verso of each page has testimonials and information about medicinal products of the Kickapoo Indian Medicine Company. An example of a hybrid community cookbook, almanac, and trivia digest sheet intended to appear as an irregular serial publication. Herewith issue number two, with some fifty attributed recipes mixed among the advertisements and advice. As a publication it is valuable for another reason. On page [5] appears an acknowledged that the recipes have been included by arrangement with compilers of a church cookbook titled Good Living and How to Attain It, published by St. Mark's Episcopal Church of Coldwater. A promotional booklet for butter color, the dye used to color butter and butter-simulating products, including margarine. Though variation in butter color was natural, both seasonally and by breed - some breeds produced milk that was yellower (Jerseys for example), and others whiter (Holsteins for example), by the 1880s, use of these dyes was controversial, especially as it was being used to color replacements for butter. Depicted on the wrapper is the lovely "Mary Anne of St. Lambert." In stapled white and salmon illustrated wrappers, titled in blue; dampstain to lower right corner, throughout. Good. [Milwaukee: the company, 1925. Trade catalogue bound with three brass fasteners (28 x 22.5 cm.), forty-two original color-printed cellophane or polyethylene food wrappers, mostly for meat (bacon or sausage) or candy products. Brand names and designs vary greatly. Some of the samples bare the Milprint Protecto-Pack or Millprint Econo-Wrap slug. "Milprint, Inc., was founded by the brothers Max T. ("Popsy") Heller and William ("Billy") Heller as the Milwaukee Printing Company in 1899. Beginning in 1908, they succeeded in developing printing techniques for flexible media used in commercial packaging, at first glassine paper, and then cellophane, foil and polyethylene. The Heller brothers were able to get in at the beginnings of the mass marketing of consumer goods, when individually sealed wrappings implied safety and purity.
