In handsome bindings of blue three-quarter levant over marbled boards. Top edges are gilt. Raised bands with decorations and lettering in gold. Volume I had a bad bump to the top corner which has been repaired but is still evident if carefully examined. There is a minor and rather inconsequential bump to the bottom corner. An attractive set. Very Good binding.

Lettering in gilt on the spine. The Galaxy was a monthly literary magazine, founded and edited by the brothers William and Francis Church. Fitts was a captain of the 114th New York Volunteers during the Civil War, who wrote numerous times about the War for The Galaxy. Near Fine binding.

Tan cloth over blue laid paper-covered boards, with a blue paper label on the spine printed in gold. At the colophon, #400 of 550 copies. Some minor wear to the corners, and some very slight rubbing to the boards, but a clean and tight copy. (BAL 7955). Very Good+ binding.

In the publisher's maroon cloth, with titling in gold to the spine. There are several small dark stains and, for balance, several light stains. Small hole to the spine; there is a snag to the rear board. Not a beautiful First Edition copy, but sturdy and serviceable; an interesting narrative by the British artist, gardener and travel writer. His detailed depictions of wildlife are exacting. Good binding.
