This particular banner was acquired from the auctioning of a lodge that was closing in Ohio. Banner for the international fraternal group known as the Loyal Order of Moose. The acronym P.A.P. on the banner stands for Purity, Aid, and Progress. Loyal Order of Moose is a fraternal organization founded in 1888 in Louisville, Kentucky, and later headquartered in Mooseheart, Illinois. As part of their community service, they maintain Mooseheart Child City and School, a community for children and teens in need, and a retirement community for its members in Florida. They also support sports and recreational programs on a local level. This fraternal order has a long documented history of racial discrimination that extends into the 1990s. Recipes for lobster, clams, crab, shrimp, scallops, mussels, sardines, cod & haddock, mackerel & pollock, cusk, halibut, whiting & hake, ocean perch, and flounder. One part of a scarce set of two books, the other titled: Fair Japan, Optimistic. A poem by Helmuth (1833-1902) is printed on the first two pages, subsequent pages present an illustration, many of malnourished and naked children, with lines from the poem on the facing page. Truly a Pessimistic look at Japan. William Tod Helmuth was a professor of surgery, dean of the faculty and a trustee of the New York Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital. While Dr. Helmuth wrote scientific books, he also published poetry and stories based on his travel.

One of two hundred copies of this American printing of the speech of King Edward VIII of England abdicating the throne, this one embellished by the wood-engraved art of Mallette Dean (1907-1975) for the Grabhorn Press of San Francisco. Conningham 1931. A small but charming and happy Currier & Ives hand-colored lithographic print of two children and their pets, a girl holding a cat and a boy with a dog. One of their lesser-known prints, it is attributed to Nathaniel Currier (1813-1888) with approximate print dates of 1896 through 1907. The dress of the children would suggest an earlier era, but the company's address at 33 Spruce Street in New York places the printing in these dates and after Currier's death. Frederic A.
