London: Chapman and Hall, 1865. Stiff card wraps. Fine. (iv), 16pp. Slim 8vo. Stiff wraps. Illustration by T. E. Webster as a frontispiece, repeated in part on the upper wrap. Tissue guard protects the frontispiece. Rare edition of Gammer Gurton, which was first published in 1784 by Joseph Ritson. This edition features not only much of Mother Goose, but other rhymes as well, and include two about King Arthur. And some rhymes have words that vary from the accepted norm. Description:
London: Printed only for a few friends, 1881. Wraps. Very good. 12pp. Printed wrappers. The fragile wrappers are chipped at edges and have been reinforced at the spine; the text block is in near fine condition. In blue card chemise and slipcase. According to Carter and Pollard, this title "conforms to our forger's formula (type style and paper) and is highly suspicious." It was later confirmed to be a forgery. Wise parlayed his international reputation into a career in creating and selling forgeries. Carter and Pollard proved that a large number of rare first edition pamphlets from 19th century authors which depended solely on Wise's published works for their authenticity were fakes. .

London: Printed for J. Bumpus, et al., 1818. Hardcover. Very good. The Fifteenth Edition, with Considerable Additions and Improvements. 8vo. xvi, 776pp. Folding engraved frontispiece of two world globes; Illustrated with six folding engraved maps (complete). Half deep blue calf, spine gilt, maroon lettering label, gilt, marbled paper sides, edges and end papers. Light wear to edges and hinges, some aging and soil to the maps, closed tear at a fold on the Africa map and text, but overall a very good copy. Here you will see the entire southwest coast of North America named California; with Mexico and New Mexico to the east, New Leon to the south, Louisiana taking the greater part of the center, and the United States along the east coast. Corea is shown and, across the sea, Nippon. Africa looks strangely complete, though many of the names in the center of the country are not recognized by this cataloguer. .

Vienna: Gilhofer, 1889. Very good. Wraps. 4to. 5-3/4 by 7-3/4 inches. 8pp pamphlet; woodcut illustration to first page. Likely one of 100 copies printed on old paper from the only known copy of the 1492 original, owned by Julius Krone and now lost. The original is one of several publications printed in 1492 or shortly thereafter regarding the Sternberg executions; this one printed by Matthaeus Brandis pamphlet, however, bears a complex woodcut showing the Host desecration. The text is in a combination of Low German and Latin. Edges worn, stain and an abrasion on the front page else in very good condtion. Bound with string, probably the original binding. The 1889 printing orignally had the following description: Niederdeutscher Druck von Mathäus Brandis in Lübeck um 1492. Photolithographische Reproduction. [The preface is signed Dr. F. M.]. Housed in a quarter leather chemise with marbled paper sides. See ISTC is00790260. A facsimile of this copy was issued in a limited edition in 2009.

Description:
Baltimore: Kelly, Hedian and Piet, 1860. First US edition. Hardcover. Poor. 12mo. 192pp. Green embossed cloth with remnants of gilt on the spine. Lacks front free endpaper. Textblock generally soiled, cloth soiled with a piece lacking on the upper board, boards warped. Only a poor copy, but scarce. We have marked this as a first US edition. There is an abbreviated mention of a Benziger Brother edition of 1858, but this is likely a misprint. Benziger did print this title much later in several printings. It also appears that some of the text was published serially earlier. Reviews of various publisher guides of the period have not resolved this issue completely, but we believe that the preponderance of the evidence is that this 1860 edition is the first US edition. .
