Illustrated with 12 charming chromolithographs by Maud Humphrey and black & white illustrations by her sister, Mabel. Staining to the front board. Corners worn with boards showing. Boards also showing along with some chipping along some edges. There is some spotting, small stains to the first four leaves, front the endpaper to the first page of text. There are some ink stamps to the title page along with one of the blanks at mid-book and a bit to a couple of text pages. The color illustrations are largely very clean and nearly fine. There are two small pieces missing from the cloth spine. One is toward the upper end and measures 1/4" and another is closer to the lower end and measures 1/2". ; Small 4to 9" - 11" tall .

Designed by Hans Mardersteig and printed in the Autumn of 1939 at the Officina Bodoni, Verona. To the leaf following the copyright page there is tipped a Publisher's Note stating, "This special limited edition aims at presenting in one volume the best stories written by Katherine Mansfield at every stage in her career." There is trace foxing along the page edges as well as the endpapers. Otherwise nearly fine. The printed gray dust jacket is somewhat darkened at the spine. With the complete number line to the copyright page and date on the title. Signed by Van Allsburg on the title page. Not inscribed. Bumps to the upper corners, very minor bump to the lower spine. All else is nearly fine. The dust jacket has fading along the length of the spine. There are a couple of tears to the lower edge, near the spine. One is about 1 1/2" to the rear and 1" to the front. They are each repaired with clear tape to the reverse or verso. There are also associated creases to the lower spine and along the lower, front panel edge. One other repaired tear of 3/8" to the lower, front edge and also with some creasing. Original price of $8.95 to the front flap.
