FIRST EDITION, FIRST TRADE ISSUE. Go Down Moses and Other Stories. William Faulkner (1897-1962). New York: Random House, 1942. 8vo. Publisher's black cloth with gilt-lettering, top edge stained red [first state binding]. This ORIGINAL dustjacket is rich in color with light wear to the edges. Overall the book is in great shape with minor scuffing/wear to top edge boards. The pages are clean with NO marks or bookplates effaced. A rare wonderfully clean copy with well preserved First State pictorial DJ (minor abrasions to top and bottom edges, some toning). Fine/Near Fine.Though considered by the public to be a collection of seven unrelated pieces of short fiction, Faulkner insisted in his later years that Go Down Moses was truly a novel. It includes "The Bear," one of Faulkner's best-known short stories. Petersen A21b.
