The author was a physician and educator in Kurland (Courland), now part of Latvia. The statement 'Neue Folge' (New series) on the titlepage refers to his earlier compilation Hermon: Erzaehlungen aus Talmud und Midrasch (1907). *** It hardly needs saying that Jewish children's books printed in Germany before the Second World War are nowadays VERY SCARCE. This copy belonged to Hashomer Hatzair (the young guard) at kibbutz Mesilot, where it was certainly needed: Iraq had bombed the place in 1948, and terrorists attacked again in 1957. —— Collation: In 8s (167 × 120 mm, 6½ × 4¾ inches): Forty-one leaves paginated [i–ii], [1]–[80].
