Seferis (1900-1971), a Greek diplomat, Ambassador to the UK, and one of the Twentieth Century's most important Greek poets, won the 1963 Nobel Prize in literature for "his eminent lyrical writing, inspired by a deep feeling for the Hellenic world of culture", thus the first Greek to have received the prize.
