Description:
8vo, original purple cloth with gilt vignette, spine faded, spine ends and corners rubbed, names and inscriptions on ffep, sporadic light spotting else very good. Currier p. 126-127. Whittier was a New England Quaker poet who drew early inspiration from Scottish poet Robert Burns. He worked as an editor for the American Manufacturer in Boston and then the New England Weekly Review. A dedicated abolitionist, he spent much of his working life as an activist and champion to the anti-slavery cause. He contributed many works to the Atlantic Monthly (a publication he helped to found). This group of poems include works by his sister Elizabeth H. Whittier.
