Bonechi Editore, Firenze, first edition, 1968. Cloth over bevelled boards, gilt cover-title, folio, 35 cm,. 71 pp, ills, 53 colour plates (including several double-page). From the blurb: "Il Dott.

Produced to accompany an exhibition that celebrated the centenary of Sydney Cockerell's appointment as Director of the Fitzwilliam Museum (1908-1937). But as the author notes ".. it is not an exhibition catalogue in the strict sense of the word..Rather, it presents the history of the Fitzwilliam Museum during one of its most dynamic and enriching periods, Cockerell's Directorship. His enthusiasm was infectious, his knowledge of the arts wide ranging and profound, his acquisitiveness, energy and determination incomparable. The building was doubled in size. The collections were trebled
this book is intended to take visitors round the entire Museum. It highlights Cockerell's acquisitions among the most iconic exhibits in the permanent galleries and his innovative approach to display that was followed as a model by museums and galleries in Britain and…

Rutgers University Press, New Brunswick, first edition, 1992. Laminated wrappers, 8vo, 23 cm,. 213 pp. From the blurb: "This book is a personal vision of the history of chemistry, presented as a kind of life story of the science. It makes no claim to be a definitive history, whatever exactly that might be; but seeks to make chemistry accessible through its past. Our story takes us from an occult science to a reduced and service science; in a trajectory the high point of which came in the nineteenth century, when chemistry seemed the fundamental science, and was also the most popular and exciting of them all. It is written in the conviction that scientific ideas, and the roles played by sciences in our lives, are momentous: and yet can be presented in plain language, and be appreciated by outsiders. The chemical revolution of Lavoisier depended upon getting language right: words make worlds, sciences advanace through analogy and metaphor, and chemistry - perhaps especially past chemistry -…
