Description:
Boston: Little, Brown and Company,, 1948. The work in getting my novel published has been past description First edition, first printing, of the author's wildly successful debut novel, together with an autograph letter signed "Dodie", addressed to her close friend and theatre colleague, John Evelyn Moore. This letter is a warm and affectionate accompaniment to Smith's highly acclaimed novel, detailing the trials and tribulations of publishing the work, which was subsequently printed in the UK the following year. Written and first published in the United States, I Capture the Castle speaks to Smith's yearning for home. A conscientious objector, alongside her husband, Smith had emigrated from England to the US in 1939, spending time in California, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. This coming-of-age story of Cassandra Mortmain living with her family amidst genteel poverty in pre-war south of England reflects a bucolic, idealized vision of Smith's former home and happy upbringing. The autograph letter… Read More

Doylestown, Pennsylvania, November 1948", with an autograph note from Smith laid in, dated 26 March 1949. The recipient was Jon Wynne-Tyson (1824-2020), author, publisher, pacifist, and founder of the Centaur Press. The note is written on the verso of a change-of-address card, marking Smith's move from Doylestown, Pennsylvania, where this title was written, to 1006 Cove Way, Beverly Hills, California. She thanks Jon for his letter and for sending copies of Enquiry. She continues: "I've sent your mother all our reasons for returning to California - for the summer". Description:
[Asheville, NC: Grove Park Inn, summer, 1936]. The first and last draft manuscripts for a published short story, given by Fitzgerald as a gift to his obliging young typist Two original drafts, the first draft and the second and final draft, for Fitzgerald's short story "I Didn't Get Over", written in summer 1936 and published in Esquire magazine that October. The most noticeable differences between the two drafts are at the beginning and end of the piece. The title is slightly changed: in the first draft, it is "I Never Got Over"; in the second, that is amended in manuscript to "I Didn't Get Over". In the story, a former army captain who failed to make it to the front in the First World War confesses his responsibility for a training-camp accident that claimed the lives of several soldiers. At the end, the second draft, Fitzgerald adds in pencil the coda that makes the identity of the army captain clear: "I was that captain, and when I rode up to join my company he acted as if he'd never seen me… Read More

Description:
Bethlehem, PA: , 1947. Superb, scarce poster from the very outset of Rich's solo career. A musical prodigy on Broadway at two years old with his parents' act Wilson and Rich, he found fame under the sobriquet "Baby Traps the Drum Wonder". Rich was with Tommy Dorsey either side of brief military service, before forming this first band with financial assistance from Frank Sinatra. The band lasted just a couple of years before Rich returned to his role as one of the most in demand, and most demanding, sidemen in the Big Band world. For this Interfraternity gig at Lehigh, Buddy's Band was paired with Skitch Henderson's outfit. Henderson was best known as a skilful accompanist, able to "re-sketch" a song in any key for a vocalist. He worked with Bing Crosby, Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland, was MD for Frank Sinatra's Light-up Time in the early 50s, he founded the highly successful New York Pops orchestra in 1983 and conducted it until his death in 2005. Original concert poster (420 x 280 mm) printed in… Read More
