On verso, Feiffer has sketched what appears to be a self portait, bearded self in top hat and perhaps magician's cloak, again iscribed "To Nathanial" with a line extending across to the ext page where he has again signed and dated 11-7-01.

This, the English edition, follows the London premiere of the play in 1938 as Hitler occupied Austria and bombed Spain. Signed by 27 members of the cast, including leads Raymond Massey and Tamara Geva on the fly verso and half title. Book very good, dustjacket soiled and missing top end of dustjacket spine, plus minor losses here and there around edges.

NY: Funk and Wagnall's, 1966. 1st Edition. Hardcover. VG+/Very Good. First edition with an atypical and personal sketch by Sloane on teh ffe. Typically, Sloane sketches covered bridges or tools or whatever is the subject of his book to the inscribee. In this case, Sloane has sketched a Christmas greeting from one couple to another which recalls a shared vacation "(on) the banana boat" and a shared joke about a formation of clouds that resembles a woman's breast and torso; the observing couple, looking skyward, proclaim "look there's a cumulus boobilus". All in all, highly unusual for a Sloane sketch. Dustjacket a little bit worn. A solid - and collectible - copy.

Affixed to the ffe is "The Prophets Really Prophecy as Mystics The Commentators Merely Statistics", Robert Frost's personal version of his 1962 Christmas card. Affixed to the rear pastedown is a facsimile of Frost's holograph of a his poem which begins "In winter in the woods alone/Against the trees I go..." Frost had an offset reproduction of this printed at Amherst in January 1962, originally in an edition of 25 copies, to distribute to undergraduates and friends, on the occasion of a movie made at Amherst College. On the fron pastedown, Muni has amended his original ownership of "Property of Paul Muni" so it reads "Was (Property of Paul Muni) stolen byu Co-author of Jerry one.ah. Robert E. Lee" Dustjacket toned, more at spine, with some light chipping corners and spine tips.
