Though yet unverified, the early owner, signed Edward Sugden, is presumably EDWARD SUGDEN, First Baron of St. Leonards, Lord Chancellor of Ireland under both King William IV and Queen Victoria, and (for one year only) Lord Chancellor of Great Britain under Queen Victoria. 1828 is the stated publishing date, while 1829 appears in Roman numerals on title page, making this a very early printing. 3 1/4" x 5 1/4", 362 pages, plus 8 pages of index. No jacket as designed. Cover is marbled grey and brown boards with ¼ bound brown cloth, including at corners, titled in gold gilt on the binding. The front cover is separated, making the overall condition Very Good rather than Near Fine. A note follows the final printed page: "Robert Malcolm, printer." A sales sticker appears on front reverse… Read More
