Description:
Bendigo: The Company, 1880. First Edition. Paperback. Very Good. Bendigo, The Company, [1880s?]. Quarto, [8] pages with 6 illustrations of footwear and a large illustrated advertisement. Salmon-pink title-wrappers; acidic paper now brittle, with a few edge tears and chips (and minimal expert conservation in two spots); a very good copy. The catalogue record in Trove suggests [1895], but it also calls for 6 pages, and says Bendigo is in NSW! Curiously, newspaper advertising for J.H. Abbott and Co. Tanners & Curriers, seems to cease in 1889, but we can find nothing to indicate if they went out of business then.

Description:
Gotha: Justus Perthes, 1872. Gotha, Justus Perthes, 1872. A three-colour map (printed surface 246 × 424 mm), mounted on plain paper, with the two original vertical folds barely visible; minimal light foxing; in excellent condition. 'Petermann's Geographische Mittheilungen. Jahrgang 1872, Tafel 22' is printed in the top margin outside the printed border. 'Petermann's Geographische Mittheilungen' (Petermann's Geographical Communications), founded by August Heinrich Petermann in 1855, ceased publication only as recently as 2004. It was 'the oldest German-language journal for geography, in which all major geographical discoveries of the 19th and 20th centuries were published' (Wikipedia). About J.M. Gilmore we have unearthed nothing, and when even such an indefatigable bibliographer as Ian McLaren doesn't record him, you're definitely made a discovery. The map is much more informative. Gilmore made two trips in the Channel Country in south-west Queensland, one in January to March 1871, the other in…

Quarto, [26] mimeographed pages printed on card, with numerous illustrations (including 2 full-page hand-coloured illustrations, and a hand-coloured pictorial title to one poem). Overlapping pictorial wrappers. 'This little paper is, with kind assistance, the loving effort of the "Old Girls" of a small school. May it do its part on Australia Day. A.M. Parsons, Wooroonook, Strathfield' (at the foot of the second-last page). Alice Mary Parsons was the wife of Frederick William Parsons (1852-1933), an Alderman on Strathfield Council from 1890 to 1914, and Mayor in 1895-97. Description:
Adelaide: Vardon Pritchard, Printers, 1905. 2nd Edition. Paperback. Very Good. Adelaide, Vardon Pritchard, Printers, 1905 (second edition)/ 1905. Octavo, [vi], 341, [1] (colophon) pages plus 6 full-page plates (3 from photographs). Pictorial wrappers lightly marked and creased, with minor wear to the spine; trifling signs of handling; a very good copy. The first page (the verso of the frontispiece) is inscribed in ink to 'Jack Rowan from the author Harry Driscoll 10.5.09'. Henry John Driscoll was born in Adelaide in 1857; his obituary appeared in 'The Advertiser' on 4 September 1916. This novel, and its sequel, 'Bushmen All. A Romance of the Never-Never' (1908), 'deal with pioneering life in the Riverina and the dry country nearer the centre and, though not cleverly constructed, contains some authentic - and sometimes diverting - episodes of station life' (Paul Depasquale: 'A Critical History of South Australian Literature, 1836-1930', 1978).

Description:
Unley: Chas P. Scott, 1900. Unley, Chas P. Scott, [circa 1900s]. A sepia-toned postcard-format gelatin silver photograph (138 × 87 mm), blind-stamped with the photographer's details ('Chas P. Scott | Unley S.A.'); the caption is inkstamped at the head of the recto, and the verso is printed for use as a postcard. Tiny surface chip and crease to the top right-hand corner-tip; in excellent condition. Charles Scott (1878-1928) is 'Listed as photographer at 21A Waymouth Street, Adelaide, in directories from 1909 to 1915+, his "private residence" being given as 10 Grace Street, Goodwood Park' (Photohistory SA website). The Art Gallery of SA gives the date '1903-04' for this image in its collection; this example, with the address in Unley (an Adelaide suburb near Goodwood Park) would appear to have been produced prior to Scott's relocation to Waymouth Street.

[Adelaide]: Brolga Books, 1970. First Edition. Paperback. Fine/Fine. [Adelaide], Brolga Books, 1970. Square quarto, [18] pages plus 27 plates (7 in colour). Flush-cut card covers slightly foxed on the inside surfaces; essentially a fine copy with the fine colour-pictorial dustwrapper. This copy is signed on the title page by the author, and signed and dated (1970) by James Cant, under his frontispiece photographic portrait. (The handwriting clearly shows the effects of advanced multiple sclerosis, the disease that had confined Cant to a wheelchair from the mid-1960s.) James Montgomery Cant (1911-1982) was married to fellow-Australian artist, Dora Chapman. Loosely inserted in the book is a small card (130 × 100 mm) printed with a monochrome illustration ('Drawing ... 1963') by him on the recto; it is inscribed on the verso 'Ruth & Mervyn, wishing you a very happy & prosperous New Year. Love, Dora & Jim'. The recipients were fellow-artists Ruth Tuck and Mervyn Smith. A small four-panel catalogue for…
