We are selling both the first edition of the novel and the unpublished, unrevised pre-publication edition as a set. The published edition (stated first American edition), its dj (in a Plasti-Kleer protective cover) and the pre-pub. edition are all in "as new" condition. These may be of interest to those who want more insight in how this great writer's book is finalized. The unpublished, unrevised proof edition is in soft paperback cover.

First U. S. edition by A. L. Burt of this very popular book at the time. Light shelf wear at covers, except top right corner corner which is frayes about 1/4 inch. Name has been inscribed on first flyleaf page. Otherwise pages are in very good condition.

Very light wear at top of the spine and light soiling on the covers and top of spine. Miniscule wear at the bottom edge of the back cover. Pages are clear, clean, without marks, folds or foxing, except for light toning on the first and last flyleaf pages. Clipped dj (at all four flap corners; however price - $2.75 is shown) has one large gouge and several smaller ones, chips and small tears.

1962 first Landmark Books edition. .Cover and binding in near fine condition. Gray with blue silhouette of a PT boat on front cover. Two faults in book: author's name and address inscribed in pen at top the inside flyleaf (at the top of the photo of PT boats) and a section on front cover - about 1/2" round whitened area under the boat. Otherwise, no tears or blemishes.The dust jacket is in poor condition with tears and fraying at edges. A triangular section of the Dj - approx. 2" base, 1:.5" height - is missing. at the bottom of the Dj front cover.

Signed first edition of the novel by this famous journalist/novelist. We assume it is also a first printing as no printing history is provided, which usually indicates a first printing. Both the book and the dj are in 'As New' condition. the only fault we found was that the dj (encased in a Plasti-Kleer cover) has been clipped at the top right corner of the front flap . Apologies for the photos, which are much came out too dark.
