Carlsruhe: Bureau der deutschen Classiker, 1821. Hardcover. Fair. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. See photos for condition details half-bound with leather to spine, though the entire side is missing. This is a double volume bound into one book. Exterior shows scuffing and soiling along with edge and corner bumps/wear. Both boards are precariously held on by just the binder string. External page edges are marbled on all three sides. The interior binding of the text pages is in much better shape as pages are tight. Paper is toned due to age and foxing/spotting is present. The front pastedown as glue residue from where it is likely a bookplate once was. No handwriting was found in the book, no library markings, no signatures. The first part contains 412 pages in the second part contains 536. Although the binding of the boards is fragile the interior binding makes this an excellent copy for restoring or for reference purposes. Text is in German.

London: Hodder & Stoughton Ltd., 1961. 9th Printing. Hardcover. VG+/Good. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. Mabel Lucie Attwell. See photos for condition details. Hardcover with dust jacket. DJ shows toning and scuffing along with numerous bumps and small tears along edges. The original price sticker of 20/-net is still present on the front flap. Blue cloth boards underneath her clean except for along the edges. The illustration on the front board is still bright. Edges and corners show bump/wear. Internal binding is good, no hinge issues. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings etc. On the bottom exterior page edge there is a small pen mark which measures about one quarter of an inch. This is not a remainder mark but appears more to be just where the book bumped up against a pen. No other handwriting found inside or out. The copyright page states ninth impression, 1961.

Stereo shows minor soiling from handling and spine is sunned. Edges and corners show bumps and wear and rear board has a very faint smear. Internal binding is good, no signatures or bookplates, no handwriting or library markings. Pages are toned due to age. Hinge is pulled a bit at the title page.

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1927. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, blue cloth boards have a couple small stains on the front and lighter spots on the back. Minor edge and corner bumps/wear is also present. The internal binding is good and text pages are secure. There are several quadrants of pages that are still uncut, showing this book was never fully read. The uncut pages seem to start around the appendix continue on through the end of the index in the back of the book. No signatures or bookplates, no handwriting, no underlining, no remainder marks, no library markings.

New York: Davis' Union Printery, 1913. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good-. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, no dust jacket. Pale blue cloth boards with black text on front and spine. Sides and spine show quite a bit of sunning/fading and spotting is present. Interior pages are toned due to age. Inscribed and signed by the author in pencil which states: " To City Solicitor Marchant with deepest gratitude for benefactions bestowed at the Press Club doings. JK O'Conner, Oct 1921". The the hinge is pulling a bit at this area where the inscription is located. No other handwriting noted in book, no bookplates, but no other hinge issues.

London: Constable, 1949. 1st Edition . Hardcover. VG+. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, maroon cloth boards with gilt text on front and spine. Exterior shows minor toning and handling, front board has a whitish one spot near the center which is caused by a slight raised area under the cloth. Internal binding is good, no hinge issues. Pages are lightly toned due to age and there is some minor scattered foxing. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings. The introduction page still contains the tipped-in erratum slip. Book contains 99 pages plus additional 32 pages of plates in the rear of the book.

Cambridge, NY: Oleander Press, 1981. 1st Edition . Hardcover. As New/Fine. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover in unclipped dust jacket. These books were purchased new directly from the distributor, with some copies packed away and never made it to the shelves. Book is as new although the dust jacket was marked as fine condition due to some very light handling to the finish. Red cloth boards underneath or clean and bright without issues, binding is tight is book was never read. Pages are clean with no handwriting, store stickers, remainder marks.

Hardcover, yellow cloth boards decorated in green shows a bit of scuffing and spotting, edges and corners show bumps/wear. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no handwriting found. Pages are toned due to age and there is very light scattered foxing and spotting on a few pages. The copyright page states first edition.

Book is actually new and was removed from our shelves for online sale. No remainder marks. Book exterior does show some light shelf wear: small toning/bumps/soiling and/or scuffs, which is why this was not listed as brand new. Note: Our original store price was penciled inside front cover but has since been erased.

Exterior shows chipping and small tears as well as light toning, spine is not wrinkled or cracked. Internal binding is good and text pages are tight. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no handwriting found. Paper is toned due to age but pages are clean, front end page has a circular stamp in the corner from India and title page has price stamped in lower right corner. Copyright page states seventh edition, 10,000 copies.

Boston, MA: Dana Estes & Company, 1914. 2nd Printing. Hardcover. Fair. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, red cloth boards decorated on front and spine. Exterior is quite soiled and spine is sunned. No signatures or bookplates present, no library markings. Front hinge is cracked at the board, rear hinge is good. Rear pastedown shows a tear in the paper in the upper right corner - which is from when the book was bound and not misuse. Pages are mildly toned due to age and some foxing and smudge marks are present. Tissue guard has several smudge marks and a small tear of less than 1/2 inch.

Hardcover, maroon red cloth boards, blind stamped on front and gilt on spine. Exterior shows several spots where the cloth is degraded along with numerous white paint speckles. Corners and edges are still sharp. Interior binding is good and square, no hinge issues. Pages are toned due to age and some minor foxing and spotting is present. A unique copy as front end page is signed and inscribed by the author showing where he presented this book to his son, Arthur Brown Junior.

Hardcover, blue cloth boards decorated in light blue and gilt. Exterior is clean with only minor spotting, small vertical binding flaw on back board. Interior binding is good and pages are tight. No hinge issues. Decorative end pages are free and clear of any handwriting or bookplates, no signatures present. Also included in book is a 4x6 card which states: " With the Compliments Lindsay Russell - 165 Broadway, New York". Lindsay Russell wrote the introduction to the book and was President of the Japan Society. An attractive copy with tight binding like the book was never read. Top edge is dust darkened.

Softcover, stiff wrap boards with paper label on front, embossed logo on rear. Bookstore contains the original glassine cover which is tattered along edges with numerous tears and chips. Paper cover underneath is clean except for edges on all sides. Edges also show bumps. Interior binding is good, no hinge issues. Half title page (which is also the first interior page) as the owners name and note: "Hazel Jones, Hawaii 1941. Dec. - terrible war! O my! ". No other handwriting found in book. More pastedown still contains the Japan Tourist Bureau label and front page states this is part of the Tourist Library # 15. Front glassine frontispiece sheet is present but not attached.

DJ shows scuffing and soiling along with edge and corner wear/creases/small tears. Orange cloth boards underneath are clean and bright with only minor edge and corner bumps. The internal binding is good and text pages are tight. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no handwriting, no remainder marks. There is some light toning to the page edges and the pastedown and end pages also show toning from reacting to the dust jacket.

Exterior shows minor edge and corner bumps, along with light handling. Interior binding is good, no hinge issues, pages are tight. Pages are tanned due to age and type of paper used. Foxing and spotting is present though mainly limited to the end pages. Previous owner's name and date on front end page: "W. Richard Etchison - Oxford, England August 1958". This was the gentleman who later became Professor of the History of Art, Mt. St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg, MD.

New York: Belford Company, 1890. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Fair. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Thick hardcover, great cloth boards show quite a bit of spotting and soiling along with edge and corner bumps/wear. The internal binding is complete but does have some issues: the hinge is cracked at the front board and the rear board shows where the opposite end page was over glued by roughly 1 half-inch to where the paper is attached to the pastedown. The text pages themselves are good for the most part although there are numerous sections where there is pulling and thin cracking starting. The only handwriting found in the book is on the backside of the frontispiece where the original owner's name is lightly written in pencil. This should be able to be easily erased, if desired. Publisher's price of $2.75 still present on the front flap. Red cloth boards with yellow text on spine. Previous owner's name stamped on both front and rear pastedowns, with the name on the front being blacked out. Moderate foxing noted in these two areas as well. Stated first edition. Binding tight.
