Description:
Folio manuscript legal sheets, 11 pp. plus docketing on final back sheet. Traces of wax in some margins. Paper is browned and aged, some minor creasing at folds, margin hole on a couple of pages, not affecting text; otherwise very good. This is a very complex legal case about the ownership of two slaves. These manuscript documents are signed by the three Constables deposed as witnesses. The testimony is taken at the law offices of Lysander G. Gordon. It seems that an individual who owed people money was forced to give the slaves to a sheriff and were then sold to William Knox in Southern Tennessee. However, it appears that the slaves actually belonged to someone else. These documents try to sort though this mess.

Description:
Small 8vo, cloth, gilt illustration on top cover, and spine, illustrated, 245 [plus ads] pp. Minor extremity wear, binding generally tight and clean overall, some foxing, normal aging and browning, bookplates on endpapers, inscription on endpaper; very good or better. General Hugh Judson Kilpatrick (1836-1881) was born in Sussex, New Jersey, and graduated from West Point in 1861. After starting out with the First U.S. Artillery, Kilpatrick would serve under General George Stoneman, and would earn praise for raids he led near Richmond. He would also distinguish himself by fighting a battle with Confederate General Jeb Stuart, which delayed Stuart's arrival at Gettysburg. He also served with George A. Custer in another battle with Jeb Stuart. He was considered somewhat ruthless in battle, but was also known for his courage. He would be appointed minister to Chile (1865-1868) by President Andrew Johnson. The present work presents many of Kilpatrick's military campaigns. ANB. # 104080

Description:
Folio pamphlet (14" x 9"), green paper covers, includes double-page map of Atlantic City, 64 pp. Slight edgewear, some minor tears around staples, rear cover with small edge chip: otherwise very good, generally bright and clean. This is a promotional piece put out by the Atlantic City Real Estate Board. It starts off with a health report highlighting the virtues of Atlantic City, including information on its hospital, the temperatures one can expect, and the benefits of bathing in its waters. However, most of the 64 pages are dedicated to presenting real estate values in Atlantic City. The brochure shows changes in property values from the early part of the last century to about 1925. There is a double page map of the city that shows the various districts.
